Las Vegas Remains Top Destination for Los Angeles Air Travelers in 2024

The Los Angeles area continues to dominate as the leading market for air travel to Las Vegas in 2024, as highlighted by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA).

While the total number of passengers saw a slight decline from 2023, the figures for LA still reflect a significant share of air traffic.

According to LVCVA’s air feeder market traffic report, international travel trends also show noteworthy shifts. Canada maintains its position as the largest source of international passengers, accounting for nearly half of the total inbound international travelers in 2024.

Overall, Canadian traffic rose 7.8 percent from the previous year, despite the geopolitical tensions surrounding tariffs and President Donald Trump’s remarks regarding Canada.

The report highlights that Toronto, Ontario, remains the largest Canadian market for travelers to Las Vegas, with 281,682 passengers in 2024, albeit representing a 1.3 percent drop from 2023. Vancouver, British Columbia, follows closely with 213,257 passengers, showcasing a remarkable increase of 22.5 percent over the previous year.

Completing the list of top international markets, Mexico City ranked third, contributing 192,634 travelers—a decrease of 10.5 percent from 2023.

London’s Heathrow International Airport was fourth, with 188,755 passengers and an increase of 11.9 percent from the previous year.

Further down the list, Calgary, Alberta, welcomed 175,264 passengers (a 5.8 percent drop), while Guadalajara, Mexico, saw a strong upward trend with 122,943 passengers, up 22.5 percent. Other notable markets included Edmonton, Alberta (88,045, down 7.3 percent), and Montreal, Quebec (84,987, up 19.9 percent).

Interestingly, traffic from Seoul, South Korea, spiked by 33.3 percent, bringing in 72,828 passengers, and Monterrey, Mexico, witnessed a notable 41.1 percent increase, totaling 62,782 travelers.

On a positive note, international traffic overall saw a growth of 15.5 percent to reach 1.9 million passengers in 2024.

Adding to the dynamics of international air travel, Aer Lingus initiated nonstop flights between Dublin, Ireland, and Las Vegas, generating 5,819 passengers, placing it at the 24th position.

The most dramatic increase in passenger numbers originated from San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, soaring by 1,233.7 percent with a total of 9,256 passengers.

Turning to domestic traffic, the Los Angeles area, comprised of traffic from Los Angeles International, Burbank, Long Beach, and Ontario, contributed 1.8 million passengers, making up 9 percent of the total domestic traffic.

San Francisco emerged as the second busiest market, with 1.4 million passengers, reflecting a 3.3 percent increase.

Other notable domestic markets included the New York area (903,406, up 4.8 percent), Chicago area (809,767, up 1.5 percent), and Dallas area (757,765, up 1.5 percent).

Meanwhile, Seattle’s numbers showed a slight decline of 1.7 percent, with 725,669 passengers, along with other areas like Denver and Houston that also experienced drops in passenger counts.

Interestingly, the Buffalo, New York, market registered the highest percentage increase at 17.8 percent, reaching 65,611 passengers, while Cincinnati saw the sharpest decline of 12.4 percent, totaling 135,133 passengers.

On the whole, domestic passenger rates rose by 0.2 percent to reach 20.2 million incoming travelers in 2024.

The state of California stood out with 4.5 million incoming passengers, representing a substantial 22.2 percent of the total market.

Following California, Texas brought in 2.2 million passengers (11 percent), with Florida, Washington, and Illinois rounding out the top five states by passenger volume.

Additionally, Mississippi showed remarkable growth, experiencing a 44.6 percent increase with 28,196 passengers.

Notably, there are no direct nonstop flights to Las Vegas from the state of Delaware.
