Colorado Officials React to U.S. Strikes Against Iranian Nuclear Sites

In response to recent U.S. military strikes against three nuclear sites in Iran, Colorado officials and representatives have expressed a mix of support and opposition on social media.

The military community is integral to Colorado, as the state hosts six military bases and part of the F.E. Warren Air Force Base missile field, which extends into Wyoming and Nebraska. This base is one of three critical missile bases in the nation overseeing the U.S. nuclear defense strategy.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis addressed safety concerns on Facebook following the attacks, assuring residents that he is taking proactive measures.

“I met with my public safety team this evening and directed that they coordinate with state, local, and federal partners and remain vigilant against all threats to Coloradans and the state’s infrastructure and military assets. The state is actively monitoring for any unusual or heightened activity and threats,” he stated.

The political reactions to the military action have largely fallen along party lines. While some Colorado representatives condemned the strikes as unauthorized, others praised the decision as a means of protecting U.S. interests.

Rep. Lauren Boebert, representing Colorado’s 4th congressional district, showed her support for the president’s decision by sharing a tweet from him that featured an American flag.

On the other hand, Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who serves Colorado’s 7th District, criticized President Donald Trump for failing to seek congressional approval prior to the attacks.

“Only Congress may authorize war. And the last person I would trust to lead us through this is Donald Trump. As we watch to see the results of this strike, my primary concern is the safety and security of American service members and diplomats across the region. For the good of America and the world, we must prioritize diplomatic de-escalation,” she remarked.

Another Colorado representative, Jason Crow, who has military experience as an Army Ranger and serves the 6th District, also condemned the president’s actions, labeling them as an overreach of executive power.

“I’m seeking more information about the strikes against Iran, but here’s what we do know: Trump broke a promise to prevent America from entering new conflicts. Trump has, once again, exceeded his authority. Congress must act now and reclaim constitutional power over America’s use of military force,” Crow asserted.

In contrast, Rep. Jeff Hurd of Colorado’s 3rd District supported the airstrikes, tweeting, “The world is safer when America leads. I support efforts to protect U.S. security and stand with our allies. Grateful to our servicemembers for their professionalism and courage.”

Rep. Gabe Evans, who represents Colorado’s 8th District and is also an Army veteran, expressed gratitude for the military personnel involved in the operation.

“I’m glad to see @POTUS take action to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. As a veteran of a Global War on Terror, I know we achieve peace through strength. Prayers and thanks to our brave men and women who carried out this necessary operation,” he stated.

As Coloradans await Iran’s response to the military strikes, the political landscape remains deeply divided, reflecting broader national sentiments on military engagement and foreign policy.
