The Old Globe has announced the complete cast and creative team for its upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, directed by Globe Resident Artist James Vásquez.
This lively and comedic tale will wrap up the Globe’s 2025 Summer Shakespeare Festival, with performances taking place under the stars in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.
The play is set to begin on July 27, 2025, running through August 24, culminating in an opening night on Saturday, August 2.
The Comedy of Errors is well-known for its whirlwind of mistaken identities and comedic chaos that ensues when a young man and his companion are confused for their long-lost twins immediately upon arrival in a new town.
James Vásquez, who previously directed a successful staging of The Merry Wives of Windsor at the festival, returns to helm this production.
Barry Edelstein, the Edna H. and Joseph L. Platt Artistic Director, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The Globe’s season of laughter continues with Shakespeare’s great masterpiece of mistaken identity, The Comedy of Errors.
This play just delivers.
The story is brilliantly constructed, the language is accessible and energetic, and the characters offer a gallery of knuckleheads that sweep audiences along on a journey of fun.
San Diego’s own James Vásquez sets the play in a fantasy world of 1990s hijinks, injecting jolts of energy and invention into Shakespeare’s vivid world.
You won’t want to miss this hilarious night of fun under the stars.”
The cast boasts a talented array of 22 performers who will bring this whimsical story to life.
The lineup includes Will Blum as Dromio of Syracuse, Gina Daniels as Lady Abbess, and Joshua Echebiri as Antipholus of Ephesus.
Brandon Micheal Hall takes on the role of Antipholus of Syracuse, while Kevin Orton portrays Egeon.
Daniel Petzold will play Dromio of Ephesus, and Sarah Stiles assumes the role of Adriana alongside Heather Velazquez as Luciana.
In addition to these lead roles, the cast features students from The Old Globe and University of San Diego’s Shiley Graduate Theatre Program.
Danny Adams will portray Angelo, Kevin Alicea-Minor plays the Duke, and Lance D. Bush takes on the role of Jailer.
Further ensemble roles are filled by Trevor Butler, Madi Goff, and Chris Hathaway, with additional student cast members rounding out the performance.
The production’s creative team also promises to enhance the theatrical experience, including Scenic Design by Lawrence E. Moten III and Costume Design by Amanda Vander Byl.
Sherrice Mojgani will handle Lighting Design, Melanie Chen Cole will take care of Sound Design, and Nathan C. Crocker will oversee Voice and Dialect.
Casting will be managed by Alaine Alldaffer, CSA, and Lisa Donadio, with Chandra R.M. Anthenill serving as Production Stage Manager.
As excitement builds for this Summer Shakespeare Festival highlight, audiences can look forward to a delightful evening filled with laughter and unexpected twists in The Comedy of Errors.
