Atlanta’s culinary scene is abuzz with exciting new developments, including a nearly funded GoFundMe campaign and several upcoming restaurant openings that promise to enhance the city’s food landscape. The GoFundMe page launched on July 1 aims to raise $8,000, and it is already close to reaching its goal, signifying strong community support for local initiatives.
In a notable collaboration, Van Leeuwen, an ice cream shop at Ponce City Market, is set to launch a special sundae in partnership with Bomb Biscuits Co. as part of their debut later this month. While the exact opening date is yet to be announced, the collaboration is generating excitement. Van Leeuwen is known for its unique flavor combinations and has previously teamed up with brands like Hidden Valley Ranch and Kraft Mac & Cheese.
Erika Council, the founder and chef of Bomb Biscuits, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Ice cream is probably my second-favorite thing to eat outside of biscuits, so it’s wild to see this sundae come to life.”
In addition to the sweet treat from Van Leeuwen, Underground Atlanta is preparing to introduce several new dining options aimed at daytime customers. According to an announcement from Lalani Ventures, the owner of the development, one of the spaces on Upper Alabama Street will feature a six-stall food hall. Additionally, Dolo’s Pizza, a eatery that started as a pizza cart at the Underground Creative Carts Collective in 2021, will also set up shop in the area.
Another exciting addition to Underground Atlanta will be a restaurant called Underground Diner, which will take over the location previously occupied by Dancin’ Crepes. Though the food hall is expected to open before the FIFA World Cup kicks off in 2026, specific timelines for Dolo’s Pizza and Underground Diner have yet to be disclosed.
In news that may please morning patrons, Atlanta’s beloved Waffle House has made headlines by eliminating its 50-cent surcharge on eggs. This move comes as part of the chain’s commitment to providing accessible dining options. Multiple Waffle House locations have been affected, much to the delight of their loyal customers.
Moving onto new dining establishments, Confab Kitchen + Bar has recently opened its doors in Brookhaven and is already attracting attention with its American bistro-style menu. The menu features dishes such as sticky duck wings, mussels and frites, burgers, and heritage pork chops. Confab is open for dinner every night and serves brunch on weekends.
In a return to the area, Ghion Ethiopian Restaurant has reopened on North Druid Hills Road near Decatur, having previously operated for over 20 years on Cheshire Bridge Road. After enduring challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and two separate bridge fires, this beloved eatery is now serving the community from its new location.
Also noteworthy, The Chai Box, a Marietta-based tea company that gained fame by appearing on Oprah’s Favorite Things list in 2021, is set to launch its first cafe in Atlanta’s Upper Westside later this year. Patrons can expect to enjoy Chai Box’s blended teas along with a variety of pastries.
Pho Hoa & Jazen Tea will celebrate its grand opening in Marietta on July 12. This Vietnamese restaurant franchise is making its debut in Georgia under the ownership of local entrepreneur Leo Zheng, providing another delightful dining option for area residents.
Finally, Blackjack Bar Tapas, a new concept in Midtown from the creators of 26 Thai, aims to become a nightlife hotspot by elegantly merging craft cocktails with Thai culinary offerings in a sophisticated lounge setting. Their ambitious vision seeks to redefine the dining experience in Atlanta’s vibrant nightlife.
With these exciting changes and collaborations, Atlanta’s dining scene is poised for an invigorating summer ahead.
