Exclusive Footage of James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Unveiled in Atlanta Ahead of Film’s Release

Fans gathered at Atlantic Station in Atlanta on Wednesday, July 2, for an exclusive screening of footage from the upcoming ‘Superman’ film, directed by James Gunn.

Cast members Anthony Carrigan, Isabela Merced, and Edi Gathegi presented the footage, offering a first look at this highly anticipated reimagining of the iconic superhero.

The event took place just days prior to the film’s theatrical release on July 11, marking an exciting moment for fans and the cast.

During a group interview before the screening, the three actors shared insights about their journeys in the entertainment industry and what led them to this superhero project.

Isabela Merced, known for her role in ‘The Last Of Us,’ highlighted the importance of timing and trusting the process in achieving her dreams.

“I believe in timing, and I think everything happens when it should,” Merced stated.

She expressed her excitement about working with Gunn, whom she admires for his filmography.

“James Gunn was always a dream person for me to work with. I really respect his whole filmography, and this just felt really divine to me,” she added.

Anthony Carrigan, who has appeared in multiple DC roles, emphasized how each character he has portrayed has contributed to his growth as an actor.

“Every role that you do kind of like you learn something new about yourself. We were so set up with such a great script and such incredible characters to play off of,” Carrigan said.

Edi Gathegi, recognized for his work in ‘X-Men: First Class,’ described his career path as that of a “journeyman,” asserting that every project has uniquely prepared him for this moment.

The film, marking the first entry in the new DC Universe, stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

This fresh take on Superman focuses on a younger version of the hero grappling with his Kryptonian heritage while growing up in Smallville, Kansas.

The ensemble cast also includes notable names such as Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern.

When asked what themes they hope resonate with audiences, all three cast members pointed to the core values of hope and community that Superman embodies.

“Hope,” said Gathegi, who conveyed the importance of inspiring viewers facing personal struggles or challenges in today’s world.

Merced underscored the significance of community in Superman’s identity, stating, “I hope people come out of this with a deep appreciation for who they watch the movie with, and maybe for their community.”

Gathegi encouraged viewers to experience “joy,” reminiscent of the excitement of attending movies during childhood.

James Gunn drew inspiration for the film from the acclaimed comic series ‘All-Star Superman’ by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.

Filming took place at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, with additional locations in Ohio and Norway.

With this project, Gunn and producer Peter Safran aim to launch a new cinematic universe for DC Studios.

The Atlanta screening was part of a global promotional tour organized by Warner Bros. Pictures for the film’s debut.

‘“Superman’ opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, July 11, promising an exciting new chapter for the beloved superhero.
