Georgia is preparing for a week of turbulent weather as forecasts indicate consistent rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the state.
The National Weather Service (NWS) anticipates that the wet weather will affect regions including metro Atlanta, Columbus, and Savannah, with daily precipitation expected at least until Saturday.
A stalled frontal boundary is currently pushing rain across north Georgia, particularly through Tuesday night.
Strong storms are expected to arrive on Tuesday afternoon, likely between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., although early predictions suggest there are no immediate threats of tornadoes, hail, or damaging winds.
However, weather officials warn that the storms may bring frequent lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall, contributing to the otherwise warm April days.
Wednesday is projected to be the day with the most significant chance of severe weather, as storms are likely after 11 a.m. with a 50 percent probability of precipitation.
Temperatures during this wet week are expected to soar, reaching near 90 degrees on several days.
The NWS noted that the hottest days could roll in on Friday and Saturday, with respective highs approaching 88 degrees.
While Georgia is set for this tumultuous weather pattern, it’s not alone; other states across the central U.S. are also experiencing daily storms, as reported by AccuWeather.
A detailed forecast for metro Atlanta outlines the weather conditions over the coming days:
On Tuesday, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, predominantly in the afternoon hours, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 83 degrees.
Evening conditions are expected to remain mostly cloudy with a low around 61 degrees and a 20 percent chance of precipitation continuing into the night.
Wednesday’s forecast suggests a clearer likelihood of rain, particularly after 11 a.m., with a high near 86 degrees and calm winds shifting to the south by the afternoon.
Temperature drops to around 63 degrees are expected Wednesday night, alongside a 30 percent chance of lingering showers.
As the week progresses, the NWS is forecasting a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. on Thursday, with partly sunny conditions and highs near 87 degrees.
Later Thursday night, the chance of showers returns with a 30 percent likelihood of precipitation enduring until after 2 a.m.
On Friday, a 20 percent chance of showers will emerge after 2 p.m., contributing to partly sunny conditions with temperatures nearing 88 degrees.
Friday night anticipates a similar sequence with a chance of thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. followed by a drop in likelihood as the hours pass.
The weekend weather forecast begins with a slight chance of showers before 8 a.m. Saturday, transitioning to another slight chance of thunderstorms later in the afternoon under mostly sunny skies and highs again around 88 degrees.
Post-sundown Saturday is expected to stabilize with only a 10 percent chance of showers before 8 p.m. and a low near 64 degrees.
Finally, the week rounds off on Sunday with a 20 percent chance of showers, but warmer temperatures peaking at around 90 degrees.
As residents navigate this week’s weather, remaining informed and prepared is essential.
