The Hawai‘i Bowl has announced a three-year title sponsorship agreement with Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, officially renaming the event to the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl.
Previously, the bowl game had carried the Sheraton name from 2003 to 2013.
Entering its 22nd annual edition, the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl is set to be held at the University of Hawai‘i’s Clarence T.C. Ching Complex, a site recognized for hosting significant sporting events.
Traditionally played during the Christmas holiday, the exact date and time for this year’s game will be determined and announced at a later date.
Daryl Garvin, executive director of the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming back Sheraton as the title sponsor.
He remarked, “Their renewed title commitment is a testament to the 24-year relationship we share and Sheraton’s dedication to supporting our local community.
We look forward to delivering an unforgettable event that celebrates both football excellence and the spirit of Aloha.”
Clint Overby, vice president of ESPN Events, reflected on Sheraton’s long-standing affiliation with the game, stating, “Sheraton’s relationship with the game goes back to its founding and their role over the years has provided for countless memories… We at ESPN Events are proud of the bowl game in Hawai‘i and look forward to continued growth with Sheraton as our title sponsor.”
Emilio Gomez, complex sales leader for Marriott’s Waikiki Collection, emphasized the significance of Sheraton’s return as the title sponsor, stating, “Sheraton has a rich heritage of creating a sense of belonging for guests, wherever they are in the world.
It is the most global brand within Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio, sitting at the center of hundreds of communities, just like ours in Waikiki.
Sheraton’s return as Hawai‘i Bowl title sponsor aligns perfectly with the brand’s commitment to offer the best experiences to guests, fans, and local communities alike.”
Michael Takayama, senior vice president of Kyo-ya Management Company, noted that this partnership marks a new chapter in Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts’ history in Hawai‘i.
As the owner of several prominent hotels including the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort and The Royal Hawaiian, Takayama expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue the partnership with ESPN Events.
He dedicated time to expressing his hopes that the bowl game can uplift the local community, inspire future generations, and reinforce Hawai‘i’s place as host to a premier college football tradition.
Sheraton remains committed to sustaining local jobs, small businesses, and the hospitality industry during this crucial time of year.
“Our decision to return as title sponsor reflects our ongoing commitment to the people of Hawai‘i—to support the local community and keep a major college bowl game in the islands,” Takayama stated.
Sheraton was the bowl game’s longest-running title sponsor for 11 years, a period during which it created many memorable moments, including two overtime contests and record-breaking individual performances.
Notable highlights included Jason Rivers of Hawai‘i showcasing an impressive performance against Arizona State in 2006, and East Carolina’s Chris Johnson executing a historic game against Boise State in 2007.
The Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl became known for its high-scoring games, with the winning team scoring over 40 points in eight consecutive contests between 2003 and 2010.
