Aldi Grand Opening in Las Vegas Valley Draws Crowds as Shoppers Camp Out

Aldi has taken a significant step in the Las Vegas Valley, with eager shoppers camping out for hours in anticipation of the grand opening of its new store on Thursday.

The new location in Henderson, situated at 621 Marks St., saw lines that stretched past neighboring storefronts, as fans of the discount grocer arrived decked out in Aldi gear and equipped with quarters for unlocking shopping carts.

Elizabeth Griffin was one of the first in line, having waited for nearly eight hours before the store opened. Clad in her motorcycle helmet, she committed to the wait, sharing stories with fellow Aldi enthusiasts. “I’m serious, been here since 10:30 last night,” Griffin remarked, who has been a Las Vegas resident for the past two years.

At 8 a.m. Thursday, Aldi opened its doors to not just the Henderson location but also a second store in North Las Vegas at 2106 W. Craig Road, marking the beginning of a new shopping experience for many locals. At the Henderson site, City Councilwoman Carrie Cox inaugurated the store with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, complemented by store manager David Jameson’s remarks about the magnitude of the opening, his extensive 24-year tenure with Aldi having prepared him for various store launches across the nation.

Sarah Culp, another fan waiting in line, arrived at 11:30 p.m. and was fully outfitted in Aldi-themed clothing, proudly stating her dedication as a self-identified Aldi superfan. Culp has made it a point to travel to different Aldi locations, emphasizing the excitement and retail environment that creates a “fear of missing out” on unique items, such as her prized Aldi Christmas onesie.

To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 patrons received gift bags containing Aldi-exclusive products, an Aldi poker chip for securing shopping carts, and a gift card as part of the Golden Ticket giveaway. Additionally, shoppers have the opportunity to participate in a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 Aldi gift card during the opening weekend.

Aldi is recognized for its cost-saving practices, offering shoppers lower prices on everyday grocery items through private label brands and direct partnerships with manufacturers.

The store maintains affordability not only by selling these private-label products but also by encouraging customers to bag their own groceries, managing employee numbers judiciously, and implementing a 25-cent cart deposit system to promote cart return.

Beyond standard grocery offerings, Aldi features the popular Aldi Finds aisle, showcasing 100 new items that are cycled out weekly. Customers can find everything from hairstyling tools priced at $14.99 to outdoor fire pits for $49.99 in this special section.

Shoppers like Shane Donovan, who used to frequent Aldi stores in Los Angeles, commended the new Henderson location for its cleanliness and sizable layout. Donovan, the 72nd person to enter the store, expressed his satisfaction with the store’s design, saying, “It is big and it is clean and it is fresh. I didn’t even have to use a Lysol wipe on the cart. My old Aldi store didn’t have this kind of design.”

Donovan highlighted the convenience of Aldi’s offerings, particularly for those with dietary preferences like him. He noted that his plant-based diet is well-supported by the products available at Aldi, including unique items such as vegan ice cream and Lenny and Larry’s cookies, which are among the lowest priced at Aldi.

The Henderson and North Las Vegas Aldi locations are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A third location at 7150 S. Rainbow Blvd. is set to open in May, adding to the excitement of Aldi’s expansion in the area.
