The South Loop welcomes the return of a cherished movie theater, now under new management, as AMC Roosevelt Collection 16 officially opened its doors on Friday.
Situated at 1011 S. Delano Court, this theater previously operated as Showplace Icon before its closure nearly a year ago.
AMC Theatres stepped in to take over the space after the previous operator, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres LLC, went out of business last year.
At its opening, AMC Roosevelt Collection 16 will feature five operational screens, with plans to open a total of 14 out of its 16 auditoriums by May 2.
The highly anticipated Dolby and IMAX auditoriums are set to be unveiled this summer, with the goal of having all screens fully operational by August.
Former patrons of Showplace ICON will notice several changes upon their return.
The traditional customer service windows have been replaced with convenient kiosks for ticket purchases.
Additionally, the previous VIP seating area has been removed, and the 21-and-older bar and restaurant will now serve all ages under the new MacGuffins brand.
While some aspects of the theater have changed, such as the installation of plush, tan leather recliners in place of the old red fabric seats, the classic carpet and overall layout remain intact.
AMC’s upgrade to laser projectors promises a noticeable enhancement in visual quality, elevating the movie-going experience.
“Getting open in what really is less than half a year is pretty remarkable, considering.
So we’re really happy with the progress so far,” said Ryan Noonan, AMC Theatres’ vice president of corporate communications and PR.
“This theater is just going to shine even brighter than it was before.”
Movie enthusiasts can buy tickets for new releases, including “Sinners” and “The Accountant 2,” directly from AMC Theatres’ website or via the AMC mobile app.
AMC Roosevelt Collection 16 becomes one of the few cinematic venues located south of the Loop and adds to AMC’s extensive presence, which includes more than 25 locations within the city and suburbs.
This theater is situated within the bustling Roosevelt Collection, alongside other retail establishments such as Ulta Beauty, H&M, Fleet Feet Sports, and Banana Republic.
With a total of 47 locations statewide, AMC Theatres’ operations signify a vital piece of Chicago’s entertainment landscape.
On April 25, select auditoriums began featuring a variety of public showtimes, making the opening promptly awaited by locals.
Expectations are high for Dolby Cinema at AMC and IMAX at AMC experiences, slated to follow shortly after additional construction begins in May.
Although specific opening dates for these premium experiences haven’t been confirmed, AMC plans to have both ready by the end of summer.
At this new location, guests can enjoy plush recliner seating, Laser at AMC projection with enhanced brightness and clarity, and the convenience of reserved seating for stress-free arrivals.
Ticketless entry options further streamline the experience, allowing patrons to bypass the box office by accessing their tickets via their mobile devices.
With all these upgrades and modern features, AMC Roosevelt Collection 16 is poised to become a favorite destination for moviegoers in the South Loop.
