Record High Return Visitors to Las Vegas in 2024, Survey Shows

A significant 86% of visitors to Las Vegas in 2024 were returnees, marking a record high since the Las Vegas Visitor Profile survey began tracking this metric.

This figure represents a notable increase from pre-pandemic levels; in 2019, 76% of visitors were revisiting the city.

The survey, released earlier this year by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, highlights the motivations of visitors as well.

Among those who returned, 20% indicated they were visiting friends or relatives, while 7% came specifically to gamble and 5% to attend special events.

Interestingly, many return visitors did not wait long to return to Las Vegas; over half, accounting for 53%, reported visiting the city at least once within the past two years.

The hospitality sector was optimistic, as the survey revealed that 87% of the interviewed visitors expressed being “very satisfied” with their experience in Las Vegas.

An additional 10% reported they were “somewhat satisfied,” leaving only 2% of visitors dissatisfied with their trip.

Kevin Bagger, director of the LVCVA Research Center, commented on these promising statistics, noting, “We want our visitors to be thrilled with what we’re doing, and that’s what’s going to cause them to keep coming back.”

However, some visitors had concerns, particularly regarding costs.

Eighteen percent cited the expense of staying in Las Vegas as their biggest complaint, a rise from 17% in 2023 and 14% in 2022.

Other complaints included trip duration, with 13% feeling it was too short, and 8% having issues with their hotel accommodations.

Seven percent found the city too crowded, while another 7% reported difficulties navigating the area.

Complaints about gambling represented 6%, and similarly, 6% mentioned the heat as a discomfort.

An interesting trend observed was the decline in visitors utilizing travel advisors; only 4% reported using such services to plan their Las Vegas trip, down considerably from 10% in 2019.

The comprehensive survey consisted of around 300 monthly in-person interviews supplemented by approximately 150 online surveys, ultimately totaling 5,418 participant responses in 2024.

Additional findings revealed demographic trends among visitors.

Millennials, aged 28 to 43, made up the largest portion of visitors at 46%, followed by Gen X, aged 44 to 59, at 38%.

Gen Z visitors, aged 21 to 27, represented 7% of Las Vegas’s guest demographics in 2024.

In terms of visitor activities, 52% explored downtown Las Vegas, a slight decline from 58% in 2022 but still higher than the 42% recorded in 2019.

Planning patterns also showed an upward trend, with 59% of visitors organizing their trips more than a month in advance and 55% booking accommodation within the same time frame, both figures showing improvement from previous years.

The gambling scene remains robust, as approximately 78% of visitors participated in gaming during their stay.

The average gaming budget stood at $820.15, a figure consistent with the previous year and surpassing results from 2019 to 2022.

Moreover, 78% of hotel guests booked their stay online, a marked rise from 52% in 2019, while the number booking directly over the phone dropped to 13% from last year’s 18%.

These findings underscore a transformative phase for Las Vegas as it continues to captivate both returning and new visitors in 2024.
