New Hampshire Man Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Violent Rapes in Boston

A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for the violent rapes of three women he picked up in Boston in 2023.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office reported that Maxwell Newman, a 25-year-old resident of Newton, New Hampshire, was convicted on May 16, 2025.

He faced multiple charges, including four counts of rape, three counts of assault and battery, two counts of assault to rape, and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Judge Debra Squires-Lee sentenced Newman to 28 to 34 years in state prison, which will be followed by five years of probation.

In delivering the sentence, Judge Squires-Lee highlighted Newman’s repeated acts of violence and his deliberate targeting of vulnerable women, emphasizing the degrading treatment of his victims.

The first incident occurred on April 20, 2023, when Newman approached a woman while driving near Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard in Boston.

He lured her to a secluded parking lot located at 128 Gerard St., where he violently raped her.

Just weeks later, on June 12, 2023, at around 1:30 a.m., Newman targeted a second victim outside a Sunoco gas station in the same area.

Offering the woman $120, he drove her to the same parking lot despite her objections to parking there, where he proceeded to violently rape her.

The second victim promptly reported the crime to police and received medical attention at a local hospital.

Later that same day, Newman approached a third victim, inviting her into his car after driving her around Boston and New Hampshire for some time.

He eventually brought her to a state park, where two fishermen were alerted by her screams.

Upon discovering her, the fishermen saw Newman on top of the victim, who had evident signs of physical trauma, including fresh bruises, cuts, swelling, and bleeding.

The victim recounted that she was punched, beaten, and raped but chose not to fight back out of fear for her life.

Detectives were able to identify Newman as the suspect thanks to video footage that revealed him entering and exiting the state park in his Kia Forte.

In October 2023, forensic investigators used a national crime scene database to establish that DNA from the first two assaults matched.

A DNA sample obtained from Newman post-arrest linked him to all three crimes.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden commented on the case, stating that Newman aimed to terrorize some of society’s most vulnerable individuals and succeeded in doing so.

He expressed pride in the efforts of investigators, prosecutors, and victim advocates who worked tirelessly to secure justice for the victims, emphasizing his gratitude towards the jurors for holding Newman accountable for his cruel actions.
