Uptown Dallas Inc. has announced the inauguration of its new safety headquarters, a strategic initiative aimed at improving response times for lower-level incidents in the Uptown area.
The headquarters, located at 2222 McKinney Ave., directly across from Hotel Crescent Court, is a collaborative effort with the Dallas Police Department, underscoring a commitment to public safety within the community.
Police Chief Daniel Comeaux highlighted the significance of having officers closer to the community, stating that this new facility will enable residents to access vital safety resources.
Interim UDI Executive Director Noelle LeVeaux explained that the center will be staffed with a security team and live dispatchers, enhancing the capability for faster responses to incidents occurring in the Uptown area.
For less severe incidents, security guards will be dispatched promptly, ensuring that community issues are addressed swiftly, while a direct line to Dallas police will be available for emergencies.
“This safety HQ is a proactive investment in visibility, coordination, and public safety, not just for those who live here, but for everyone who interacts with Uptown every day,” LeVeaux stated.
She emphasized the headquarters as a reinforcement of UDI’s dedication to creating a vibrant, secure, and future-ready Uptown district.
The new center is expected to be operational by July 1, with plans to incorporate technology that allows for proactive monitoring of the area.
The headquarters will feature monitors displaying live video feeds from different parts of the district, providing a crucial overview of the area’s safety landscape.
Additionally, the facility will host spaces for Dallas police and other organizations to hold meetings, collaborate, and increase their engagement within Uptown.
LeVeaux mentioned that UDI plans to conduct a survey to assess residents’ and businesses’ perceptions regarding public safety in the area.
She acknowledged that while surveys may not provide perfect data, they will offer more concrete insights than anecdotal evidence.
Chief Comeaux expressed confidence that the headquarters’ location, in proximity to various community amenities, will cultivate a safer atmosphere by ensuring a visible safety presence in the neighborhood.
He encouraged residents to visit the center for assistance, highlighting that while police officers may not be stationed there at all times, it can serve as a convenient stop for officers between calls or while completing reports.
LeVeaux noted that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to curb crime rates in the area.
UDI aims to collaborate with businesses within the district, seeking access to their surveillance cameras to improve monitoring of the busy Uptown environment.
Positioned strategically at one end of Uptown, the new center enables security officers to effectively cover the entire neighborhood, complementing UDI’s main headquarters located at 3600 McKinney Ave.
Chief Comeaux reported a notable decrease in response times across Dallas, with an 8% reduction for priority one calls and a 3% reduction for priority two calls over the past month.
Ramsey March, an Uptown business owner and member of UDI’s board, acknowledged the positive shift in perceptions of safety in Uptown compared to the challenges experienced in 2020 and 2021.
March emphasized the importance of establishing a physical presence in the neighborhood, reiterating UDI’s commitment to community safety and providing a supportive space for residents to seek help.
Comeaux reinforced the value of community collaboration in fostering public safety awareness and education.
“We’re working together to keep everyone in Dallas safe, and right now, I’m happy to say that all crimes are down in the Uptown area, and it’s because of the collaboration, it’s because of the awareness and education that we’re going to continue to provide to everyone,” he affirmed.
