Metro Atlanta and North Georgia prepare to honor Juneteenth with a variety of events that celebrate freedom, culture, and community. The festivities include parades, live music, storytelling, art, and family activities, providing meaningful ways to appreciate this important holiday throughout the week.
One of the highlights is the Truist Night Market: Vibrant Vibes Edition, taking place on June 12 at The Home Depot Backyard. Running from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., the event features renowned chefs such as Phew’s Pies and Desta Ethiopian, alongside craft cocktails and live performances from Jukebox Atlanta and DJ MuziSean. The market is free to attend, though food and drinks will be available for purchase.
The Juneteenth Atlanta Parade & Music Festival will occur on June 14 and 15 and kicks off with a parade at noon on June 14 in Piedmont Park. This vibrant celebration includes cultural performances, various vendors, and two stages offering live music. Entry to the festival is free, making it a welcoming event for all.
Families can enjoy the Juneteenth Family Festival, scheduled for June 14 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery. This engaging event features live music, storytelling, guided tours, and purposeful activities designed for all ages. A special talk led by historian D.L. Henderson discussing her book, Perpetual Segregation, will take place at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
In Marietta, the Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society will host events to delve into genealogical history. On June 13 at 6:30 p.m., genealogy expert Christopher Smothers will offer tips on tracing African American ancestry using historical documents, a session that requires advance tickets priced at $15.
On June 19, the Root House will provide free museum admission and a host of activities, including storytelling, crafts, and living history experiences honoring Juneteenth. Additionally, a Teacher Workshop titled ‘Juneteenth in the Classroom’ will be held on June 28 to assist elementary teachers in incorporating the significance of Juneteenth into their curricula. This professional development session will be free but requires registration.
The Chattahoochee Food Works will celebrate Juneteenth from June 19 to 21, offering a three-day event that showcases Black culture through food, drinks, music, and community spirit. Each day will present unique culinary features and cultural experiences, with a live DJ scheduled to conclude festivities on Saturday night. Entry is free, with purchases available for food and drinks.
Sandy Springs will host its Juneteenth Celebration on June 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at City Springs, featuring an evening filled with music, food trucks, art displays, a genealogy exhibit, and a West African drum circle. A dance-theater performance titled ‘IMANI’ will start at 5:30 p.m. in Byers Theatre, all free for attendees.
Downtown College Park will witness its Juneteenth Parade & Freedom Celebration on June 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Following the morning parade, a festival will unfold with food trucks, a kids’ zone, and vibrant live music. This celebratory event invites families and community members to partake.
Another exciting event will be the Lift Every Voice Drone & Light Show at Stone Mountain Park from June 19 to 22 at 9:30 p.m. nightly. This spectacular tribute combines drones, lasers, fireworks, and music to honor African American icons in various fields, such as music and civil rights. Admission is included with the park entry, allowing families to also enjoy daytime attractions.
In Hapeville, the Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration on June 19 will start with a walking tour and poetry readings, followed by an afternoon packed with music, vendors, and games—all free for participants.
Also on June 15, the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead will offer a celebration of Black craftsmanship and artistry, featuring hands-on activities, demonstrations, and an engaging talk with author Robell Awake and Dr. Tiffany Momon. This event caters to all ages and is provided free of charge.
Lawrenceville will celebrate with its own Juneteenth Celebration and Music Festival at Rhodes Jordan Park on June 21 starting at noon, complete with food, vendors, live performances, and a spirit of community.
Newnan will host both a Juneteenth Parade & Community Celebration and the Miss GA Juneteenth Pageant. The parade set for June 21 from 9 a.m. to noon is organized by the Coweta County NAACP Youth Council and features floats, dancers, marching bands, and giveaways. That evening, the Miss GA Juneteenth Pageant will take place from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Wadsworth Auditorium, providing a platform for young Black girls aged 5-17 to compete and celebrate their heritage. Tickets for the pageant cost $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12.
With a plethora of events planned throughout the region, the Juneteenth celebrations in Atlanta and North Georgia promise to be a vibrant and meaningful commemoration of freedom and the rich cultural heritage of the African American community.
