Hooters Closes Dozens of Locations After Bankruptcy Filing

Hooters, the well-known casual dining chain famous for its wings and scantily-clad waitstaff, has recently shut down dozens of its restaurants across multiple states.

This decision comes just two months after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, during which it assured customers that its restaurants were ‘here to stay.’

In a statement released on Thursday, a company spokesperson indicated that after careful consideration, Hooters made the difficult choice to close certain company-owned locations effective June 4, 2025.

While the specific number of closures and the locations affected have yet to be officially confirmed, reports suggest that at least 30 restaurants across 14 states have been permanently shut down.

Most of the impacted locations now play a recorded message stating they have ‘permanently closed’ when customers attempt to call.

Furthermore, these locations have been removed from the Hooters website.

This recent round of closures follows a similar pattern from last June when Hooters unexpectedly shut down several locations nationwide.

Hooters filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late March, as part of a strategy to sell its company-owned restaurants to a group of franchisees.

The company’s plan indicates that, following the bankruptcy proceedings, all Hooters locations will transition to being franchisee-owned.

At the time of its filing, Hooters announced it would be reassessing its ‘operational footprint’ going forward.
