Annie Velma Hickson, a remarkable 103-year-old matriarch, embodies the spirit of family and resilience in Southwest Atlanta. Born in 1921 in Fayette County, her life is a testament not only to longevity but also to the strength of familial bonds that have shaped her experiences throughout the years. On May 30, following a session of family photos, Hickson sat in her cherished love seat, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. The large gathering showcased three generations of her family: her son Tommy Hickson, daughters Diane Hickson and Joann Goodman, and several grandchildren, among whom are DeAnn Richie and Theodore Hickson. The heartwarming moment was filled with laughter and joy, as Hickson’s presence is a source of blessing for her family.
Demetrice Jenkins, one of her grandchildren and owner of Hibachi on Cascade restaurant, highlighted the significance of these familial gatherings. “It’s a blessing,” he said, referring to having his grandmother present to witness these cherished moments. Hickson’s 104th birthday on June 10 is anticipated to be another large family event, celebrating her life’s journey. With an impressive lineage that includes 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren, Hickson holds a central place in their lives.
