Mistrial Declared in Boston Rape Case Against Irish Firefighter Terence E. Crosbie

A Boston judge declared a mistrial in the case involving Terence E. Crosbie, an Irish firefighter accused of raping a Boston attorney during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations last year.

Crosbie, 38, allegedly assaulted the woman, 29, in a hotel room he shared with a fellow member of the Dublin Fire Brigade.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred after the woman had consensual sex with the other firefighter, while Crosbie was said to have raped her while she slept in the second bed of the hotel room.

Hotel security footage allegedly places Crosbie in the room at the critical time, where the woman claims she woke to find a stranger assaulting her.

Crosbie has maintained his innocence, asserting he had no contact with the woman.

The trial lasted six days and included more than 20 hours of jury deliberations before the jury reported they were deadlocked.

On June 20, Superior Court Judge Sarah Weyland Ellis made the decision to declare a mistrial.

The Suffolk District Attorney’s Office announced plans to retry the case with a new trial date set for October 14.

Crosbie, who has been held at Suffolk County Jail since March 16, 2024, is currently subject to $50,000 bail.

His bail was initially set at $10,000 but was increased by Judge Weyland Ellis after prosecutors argued he posed a flight risk.

Crosbie had attempted to leave the United States shortly after the allegations were made, buying a ticket for a flight back to Ireland just days after speaking to police.

Authorities intervened at Logan Airport, where they escorted him off the plane before it departed.

If released on bail, Crosbie would be required to remain in Massachusetts and wear a GPS monitoring device.

However, his lawyer, Daniel C. Reilly, indicated that Crosbie is unable to post bail and lacks housing options in Massachusetts.

Reilly stated, “He doesn’t have anywhere to go, he doesn’t have anywhere to stay.”

During the first trial, the woman provided harrowing testimony, explaining her experience on the night of March 14, 2024.

While tears streamed down her face, she described waking to find Crosbie
