District One Kitchen & Bar, one of Las Vegas’s most beloved Vietnamese establishments, will close its doors after an impressive 11-year tenure. Located at 3400 South Jones Boulevard #8 near Spring Mountain Road, the restaurant is set to shut down on July 6, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Founded by chef Khai Vu, a native of Ho Chi Minh City, the restaurant took inspiration from the vibrant District One of Vietnam’s bustling capital. Its menu dazzled locals and tourists alike, serving decadent dishes such as lobster pho, oxtail fried rice, and fried chicken wings infused with nước mắm gừng ginger and fish sauce.
In addition to the food, the bar offered innovative cocktails, including a version of the Moscow mule featuring lychee and a refreshing mojito served in a coconut. Following its closure, the space will undergo a six-to-eight-week remodel, with plans to reopen as a new dining concept that may lean towards Japanese cuisine.
On a different culinary front, Taco Escobar is preparing to make its debut on East Fremont Street this month. Opening at 509 East Fremont Street and situated directly across from Evel Pie, this new endeavor from the Lev Group promises to bring scratch-made tacos to the area.
Inspired by family recipes and named after the famous Mexican luchador wrestler, Taco Escobar’s offerings will include beef birria, chicken tinga, and marinated mushrooms, all served on handmade tortillas.
The restaurant will not only provide delicious food, but it will also feature a bar serving margaritas, palomas, and an assortment of frozen cocktails, alongside a dining room adorned with memorabilia celebrating Taco Escobar’s wrestler legacy. Taco Escobar will be open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight, extending its hours until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
In response to a decline in Las Vegas visitation, which has dropped by 6.5 percent this year, several resorts and retailers are reviving the incentive of free parking. Following its announcement of complimentary self-parking through August 28, Resorts World Las Vegas is not alone in this initiative.
The Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood have also joined the trend, offering free parking for guests who spend $100 or more at shops or restaurants during select weekends, specifically July 11-13, July 18-20, and July 25-27. As part of this initiative, the mall is also running “buy one, get one” promotions at certain businesses, including enticing deals on yard-style drinks at Blondies Sports Bar & Grill.
Meanwhile, Winnie & Ethel’s Downtown Diner is adapting its offerings by expanding into dinner service. After winning a $1 million prize to establish the 1940s-style diner located at 1130 East Charleston Boulevard, the owners have focused initially on breakfast and lunch.
Now, they are ready to introduce a supper club-style dinner menu. Available from Thursday through Monday between 5 and 9 p.m., the new dinner menu will feature comfort food classics like smoky deviled eggs with candied bacon and catfish served with corn fritters and Cajun rémoulade.
Diners can also expect nostalgic entries like blackened Idaho rainbow trout with spätzle salad and Angus black pepper barbecue meatloaf paired with mashed potatoes and fried onions. Notably, the cocktail selection includes a toffee Old Fashioned and a unique martini topped with tomato and basil oil. To wrap up the meal, patrons will not want to miss the warm, sea salt-topped chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
