Nebraska Leaders Celebrate Passage of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

Nebraska leaders are expressing their support following the U.S. House of Representatives’ narrow approval of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ on Thursday.

The bill passed with a 218-214 vote, which saw two Republicans joining all Democrats in opposition. It is now on its way to President Donald Trump, who has pledged to sign it before the Fourth of July.

All of Nebraska’s congressional delegation voted in favor of the bill and issued statements celebrating its passage.

Rep. Mike Flood (R) commented, “This afternoon’s vote is the final step for ‘The One Big, Beautiful Bill,’ which now goes to President Trump’s desk for his signature.”

He expressed pride in the bill, highlighting measures that provide historic tax relief for working Americans while also enhancing border security and offering economic opportunities for Main Street businesses.

“These common sense, conservative policies are generational victories for the American people,” Flood remarked, anticipating the President’s signature.

Rep. Adrian Smith (R) called the legislation a transformative move for American families, workers, and the nation’s financial future.

He emphasized that the bill not only prevents significant tax increases but also broadens tax relief for family farms and small businesses.

Smith’s statement praised the bill for ensuring essential Farm Bill programs remain intact while also providing public assistance that supports the most needy Americans.

His advocacy for educational choice, biofuels production, energy affordability, and growth in capital-intensive industries was a focal point in his comments.

“This bill will catalyze President Trump’s plan to energize our economy and get our country back on track,” Smith concluded.

Rep. Don Bacon (R) also voiced his approval, as did Sen. Pete Ricketts (R), who supported the bill during its passage through the Senate.

Sen. Deb Fischer (R) offered her insights through a statement issued prior to the final vote.

She stated, “Last November, Americans spoke loud and clear: they want safer communities, lower energy costs, and real relief for working families.”

Fischer highlighted the bill’s role in blocking a $4 trillion tax hike and investing in border security as vital components of the legislation.

According to her, the bill solidifies the benefits of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which she said saves the average Nebraska family $2,400 annually.

“It keeps taxes low, boosts small businesses, strengthens our military, supports farmers and ranchers, and makes energy more affordable for everyone,” she detailed.

An aspect of the bill that particularly pleased Fischer was the permanent establishment of the Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) Tax Credit, which she introduced in 2017.

This provision allows employers to voluntarily offer paid leave to their workers during significant life events without a government mandate, providing more flexibility in the workplace.

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen (R) also weighed in on the significance of the legislation.

He remarked, “The vast majority of Nebraskans support President Trump’s vision for his America First Agenda.”

Pillen emphasized that the bill is foundational in extending tax cuts for families, bolstering military efforts, securing borders, and supporting agricultural growth.

He credited Nebraska’s Congressional delegation for their hard work and dedication in facilitating the bill through various legislative challenges.

In summary, the passage of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ marks a significant political milestone, reflecting the priorities put forth by Nebraska’s leaders in alignment with the President’s agenda.

The bill is expected to make notable impacts on families and businesses throughout the state as it moves toward becoming law.
