New York City Civil Service Exams Open for July with Varied Salaries

New York City has opened its civil service exam schedule for July, allowing applicants to pursue various positions across the city’s departments. With an application period that kicked off on July 2, multiple job opportunities are currently available, accompanied by differing starting salaries.

Among the roles now open for examination are automotive service worker, call center representative, mason’s helper, mechanical engineer, motor vehicle operator, motor vehicle operator (CUNY), police officer, and traffic enforcement agent.

These competitive, computer-based exams will be conducted throughout the month, providing a chance for individuals to enter public service if they meet the required qualifications. Interested applicants can apply online through the Online Application System or visit any Computer-Based Testing and Application Centers across the city.

The application deadline for most positions is set for July 22, while specific roles like the call center representative and traffic enforcement agent have different deadlines extending to August and the end of July, respectively.

The automotive service worker position comes with a starting salary of $42,387. Working in this role will involve assisting with automotive maintenance services under varying degrees of supervision. Tasks include performing inspections and repairs, maintaining service and repair records, and even operating motor vehicles to test repairs.

The call center representative position, which is open until August 26, offers a salary of $40,770. This role takes place within the NYC 24-hour 3-1-1 Call Center, where representatives respond to public inquiries, handle complaints, and provide customer service through advanced technology and communication systems.

For those interested in masonry work, the mason’s helper role pays $46.82 per hour for a 35-hour work week. Responsibilities include assisting bricklayers and cement masons in various preparatory and finishing tasks, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safe working environments.

Mechanical engineering candidates can expect a significantly higher starting salary of $78,740. Mechanical engineers handle complex projects and varying levels of supervisory responsibilities, engaging in research, design, and ensuring compliance with construction codes and regulations.

The motor vehicle operator position offers a salary of $46,441, requiring individuals to operate various types of vehicles for city operations. Duties involve maintaining the vehicles and assisting with loading and unloading materials or personnel.

On the other hand, the motor vehicle operator (CUNY) role, available until July 22, provides a salary of $45,496. Similar to the regular motor vehicle operator position, this role also involves operating various vehicles while supporting additional duties such as delivering mail or running errands when not driving.

The police officer position, which has a deadline for application on July 14, offers a starting salary of $55,942. Police officers are tasked with maintaining public safety, responding to emergencies, and engaging with the community to foster positive relationships. Their responsibilities cover a broad range of law enforcement activities.

Lastly, the traffic enforcement agent position is available until July 29, with a salary of $37,126. Traffic enforcement agents play a crucial role in maintaining public order and safety on the roads.
