9th Annual EMA IMPACT Summit to Address Critical Environmental Issues in Los Angeles

The Environmental Media Association (EMA) has announced the lineup for its highly anticipated 9th annual IMPACT Summit. Scheduled for May 8 and 9 at the Pendry West Hollywood, this two-day event will bring together leaders and innovators across various industries to discuss and develop sustainable solutions for pressing environmental challenges.

This year’s summit will focus on crucial themes, including recovery efforts following the devastating Los Angeles fires, leveraging social media and science for social change, and other vital issues affecting communities today.

Last year’s event was a notable success, featuring prominent figures such as Secretary Hilary Rodham Clinton, Shailene Woodley, and Rainn Wilson. As the summit returns, it aims to serve as a vibrant platform for creatives, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to explore innovative ideas for a sustainable future.

The event will kick off with an impactful series of panels centering on the resilience of those affected by the Los Angeles fires. Attendees can expect discussions on legal accountability, community-driven recovery, and the path forward, featuring local organizations such as the MOCA Museum and Getty Images, along with leading activists.

In addition to these discussions, several panels will delve into the intersection of climate change and public health, the nonpartisan advantages of engaging with nature, and the role of blockchain technology in achieving a carbon-efficient digital economy.

A highlight of the summit will be a live taping of the Naked Lunch podcast, which will feature Phil Rosenthal and David Wild in another unfiltered conversation, this time welcoming actor and comedian Kevin Nealon.

Among other engaging panels, the ClientEarth/SteadFast LA discussion, led by EMA Board Member Drew Scott, will address sustainable rebuilding practices.

Another noteworthy session, Mission Unstoppable – STEM in the Spotlight, will showcase actress and activist Miranda Cosgrove as she interviews female STEM leaders Dr. Crystal Dilworth, Fionnghuala “Fig” O’Reilly, and Nicole Small, emphasizing the importance of diversity in science and technology.

Creative Loss with MOCA will feature actress Daniella Pineda moderating a discussion with artists, including Los Angeles-based Diana Thater, whose work was significantly impacted by the recent fires.

The Hands Across Los Angeles panel, moderated by Jenna Dewan, will provide insight into local community efforts in response to the devastating wildfires.

A special segment will focus on the EMA Green Seal, presented by investigative reporter Talib Visram. He will detail how this essential program ensures entertainment industry productions adhere to sustainable practices, highlighting projects such as The Last of Us Season 2, Minecraft, Mickey 17, and The White Lotus Season 3, which have all received the EMA Gold Seal for Sustainable Production.

The summit will also host a panel on wild horses, led by actress and activist Sosie Bacon, featuring Return to Freedom President Neda DeMayo and ranchers Rodger Savory and Alejandro Carrillo, who will discuss the sanctuary’s environmental contributions.

Attendees can look forward to a dynamic atmosphere with appearances from notable figures such as Miranda Cosgrove, Sosie Bacon, Scoot McNairy, Jenna Dewan, Drew Scott, and many more.
