55th Annual L.A. Pride Parade Celebrates Resilience in Historic Hollywood

The 55th annual L.A. Pride Parade is set to reclaim its historic roots in Hollywood on Sunday, June 8, starting at 11 a.m. The vibrant parade will commence at the intersection of Sunset Blvd. and Highland Ave., making its way north before turning east onto Hollywood Blvd., proceeding south on Cahuenga Blvd., and finally concluding at Sunset Blvd. and Cahuenga Blvd. This exciting route spans approximately one mile, showcasing a diverse array of participants from Southern California’s leading LGBTQ+ nonprofits, employee resource groups, city agencies, businesses, and numerous clubs and performers.

This year’s Grand Marshals include Vanguard Grand Marshals Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts, Celebrity Grand Marshal Andrew Rannells, along with Community Grand Marshals Trino Garcia and Adam Vasquez, widely known as “TrinoxAdam.” These individuals represent the triumph over stereotypes through their inspiring love story, embodying the spirit of celebration that marks this annual event.

The festivities will be hosted by Gio Benitez, the co-anchor of “Good Morning America” on the weekends, alongside ABC7 anchors Ellen Leyva and Coleen Sullivan. For those unable to attend in person, the parade will be streamed live on ABC7’s digital platforms, Hulu, and ABC News Live. Comprehensive coverage will be provided by ABC7 Eyewitness News reporters David González, Sophie Flay, and Kevin Ozebek, stationed directly along the parade route to capture all the excitement and essential moments of this beloved tradition.

ABC7 has a proud history of covering the L.A. Pride Parade, having garnered an L.A.-area Emmy for its 2022 coverage and a nomination for the 2023 parade.

Following the parade, attendees can enjoy the LA Pride Village, which will transform Hollywood Boulevard from Argyle Avenue to Bronson Avenue, starting at approximately 12 p.m. and running into the early evening. Now in its fourth year, this free street festival is packed with programming across two stages, over 80 booths featuring local vendors and nonprofits, exciting sponsor activations, food trucks, and two full-service bars for those aged 21 and over.

Fans are encouraged to visit the ABC7 Street Team at Pride Village, where they can spin the Pride Prize Wheel and engage with representatives from the station.

For the third consecutive year, the event will spotlight a “Ballroom Battle,” a voguing competition rooted in New York City’s Black and Brown LGBTQ+ communities, which rose to fame through the documentary “Paris is Burning,” alongside the influence of Madonna and the FX series “Pose.” Esteemed ballroom houses such as House of Miyake Mugler, House of Ninja, and House of Gorgeous Gucci will compete in front of distinguished celebrity judges, including Margaret Cho, who is also participating in the parade and supporting Project Angel Food, an organization with a longstanding relationship with LA Pride.

Additionally, the event will feature a curated art exhibition titled “Bring the T,” showcasing works by trans artists that delve into their expressions of the letter ‘T.’ This exhibition will explore vital themes surrounding trans discrimination and erasure while highlighting activism, resilience, and fearlessness.

Gerald Garth, President of CSW Board, remarked, “This year LA Pride marks a pivotal moment for both the Los Angeles and LGBTQ+ communities. Despite facing unimaginable challenges, our community has always emerged stronger. This year’s theme, ‘Pride Marches On,’ symbolizes the strength of our community, and no matter the fire, hate, or fear, Pride will always forge ahead. We look forward to embodying this spirit while celebrating resilience, hope, and togetherness.”
