The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has unveiled a list of identified “sanctuary jurisdictions,” which includes seven cities and 96 counties in Illinois.
This move is part of the Trump administration’s ongoing effort to exert pressure on communities perceived as resisting federal immigration enforcement measures.
Cities such as Berwyn, Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, Skokie, St. Joseph, and Urbana are included in the DHS’s publication.
On Thursday, the department revealed the list and stated that these jurisdictions would receive formal notification regarding their noncompliance status.
