City Limits has compiled a comprehensive NYC Housing Calendar for residents interested in the latest updates on housing and land use-related events.
This week’s calendar features a variety of events, public hearings, and important affordable housing lotteries that are set to close soon.
On Tuesday, June 3, advocacy groups will gather at Foley Square in Lower Manhattan at 9 a.m. for a “Social Housing Festival.” The purpose of this event is to urge the City Council to pass the Community Land Act, which aims to enhance opportunities for deeply affordable housing and promote community ownership.
Following this event, at 10 a.m., the NYC Council’s Committee on Housing and Buildings will conduct an oversight hearing to review a suite of social housing proposals. These proposals include initiatives allowing community groups and nonprofits priority in purchasing buildings, along with the establishment of a community land bank.
In the afternoon on June 3 from 3 to 7 p.m., residents can attend a housing resource fair hosted by Councilmember Kevin C. Riley in the Co-op City area, in collaboration with the New York Public Library’s Baychester Branch. This fair aims to provide essential resources for tenants and homeowners.
The next day, Wednesday, June 4 at 6 p.m., Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso will present information on the proposed Brooklyn Marine Terminal (BMT) project, followed by a discussion on the plan.
On Thursday, June 5, several housing-related meetings will take place. At 11 a.m., the NYC Council’s Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises will discuss various land use applications, including Grace Houses, One45 for Harlem, North 7th Street Rezoning, 109 Marcus Garvey Boulevard LSGD, and Ocean Crest – Article XI.
From 12 to 2 p.m. on the same day, the Department of Housing, Preservation and Development will conduct an online workshop on the application process for the city’s affordable housing lotteries, an important opportunity for prospective applicants.
That evening, a public hearing regarding potential rent increases for tenants in the city’s stabilized apartments will be held by the Rent Guidelines Board in Queens at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, June 7, NHS Brooklyn will host its annual housing resource fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Brooklyn College, providing further opportunities for community members to access housing resources.
Following the weekend, on Monday, June 9 at 5 p.m., the Rent Guidelines Board will hold another public hearing in Brooklyn to continue discussing rent increase considerations.
In addition to these events, there are several affordable housing lotteries closing soon. The NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) has announced the following deadlines for subsidized housing applications:
– 239 East 28th Street Apartments in Brooklyn is accepting applications from households earning between $73,920 and $116,640, with the last day to apply being June 3.
– 2371 8th Avenue Apartments in Manhattan is available for households making between $91,235 and $168,480, also closing on June 3.
– 35-15 146th Street Apartments in Queens has openings for households earning between $71,726 and $227,500, with an application deadline of June 6.
– 100 South 9th Street Apartments in Brooklyn is for households with incomes ranging from $109,132 to $227,500, with applications closing on June 6.
– DeKalb Commons in Brooklyn is open for households earning between $22,869 and $160,720, with the deadline on June 9.
– Society Brooklyn at Sackett is available for households making between $35,589 and $200,900, also closing on June 9.
– Finally, the Atlantic BK in Brooklyn is open for applications from households earning between $55,475 and $241,080, with the last day to apply being June 9.
Community members are encouraged to participate in these events and take advantage of these housing opportunities.
