Evelyn, one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of the year, debuted in late March in Dallas, capturing the attention of the city’s young and social crowd.
The hype surrounding Evelyn was fueled by extensive media coverage and eye-catching social media posts featuring attractive patrons in an aesthetically pleasing environment.
Designed to evoke the charm of Hollywood’s golden era, Evelyn aims to break away from the traditional steakhouse mold prevalent in Dallas.
According to ICRAVE design manager Lisa Johnson, the goal was to create a vibrant atmosphere with a focus on ‘striking feminine energy’ rather than another stuffy steakhouse.
Dallas-based Reach Hospitality, known for their work on popular eateries like Mexican, Black Tap, and Pie Tap, partnered with ICRAVE to redesign the classic steakhouse experience.
The outcome is a restaurant adorned with soft upholstery, blush tones, and artwork that celebrates women, featuring portraits and snapshots of various feminine aspects.
As for the dining space, Evelyn consists of three distinct rooms, each with its own ambiance — from the lively Ruby Room bar area to the more subdued Piano Room, filled with inviting rose-colored banquettes.
The third space, known as Room Seven, embraces high energy with a separate bar, a massive disco ball, and ample area for diners to drink, socialize, and dance.
When Eater Dallas visited during a Friday night dinner a few weeks after the opening, the restaurant was buzzing with activity, filled with patrons celebrating special occasions or simply enjoying the atmosphere.
Interestingly, women appeared to outnumber men, as many groups gathered for bachelorette parties and birthdays, while others relished the vibe of the restaurant.
However, a few diners, including a group of men in polos, seemed out of place and left shortly after arriving, realizing that Evelyn may not align with their expectations.
A subsequent visit with friends on a Saturday night showcased a similar lively ambiance, with the restaurant fully booked and patrons gradually transitioning to the dance floor as the evening unfolded.
Evelyn’s menu reflects its glamorous theme, offering a variety of classic steakhouse fare with modern twists.
Guests can start their meal with a half-dozen fresh oysters paired with different sauces, including a Champagne mignonette and sinus-clearing horseradish.
For a playful take on traditional offerings, the wagyu cheesesteak bites feature melty Provolone Mornay, caramelized onions, and black truffle shavings, served with pickled peppers for added brightness.
However, the cheesesteak bites are filling, leaving diners to consider moderation when ordering additional items.
A BLT wedge salad complements the meal with its crisp and comforting flavors, perfectly suited for those desiring a salad that leans more toward indulgence.
For entrées, the spinalis (rib-eye cap) steak, cooked to a preferred medium rare, delivers tenderness and juiciness, while the prawn primavera pasta, richly sauced and perfectly cooked, provides a satisfying accompaniment.
Despite the overall positive experience, a side of asparagus was overly salted, requiring diners to scrape off excess seasoning for a palatable bite.
Dessert options include the visually striking Chocolate Decadence, studded with crunchy chocolate pearls and drizzled with sauce, though its presentation changes upon serving, transforming it from a work of art into a less appealing mound.
Evelyn’s drink menu highlights martinis, including a signature house martini, a Vesper, and an espresso martini.
The house martini impresses with its cold, clean finish, balancing gin, vermouth, and a hint of white balsamic vinegar, served in an elegantly presented manner with garnishes that enhance the experience.
A noteworthy touch of hospitality was demonstrated when the bartender replaced a glass with fresh ice-cold stemware, ensuring a consistently chilled drink until the last sip.
For those seeking premium options, the Price of Fame martini is a standout, featuring saffron-infused Nolet’s Reserve gin and caviar-stuffed olives, priced at $150, a unique indulgence compared to traditional wine or scotch offerings.
Additionally, guests can choose from original cocktail adaptations, including a margarita and Old Fashioned, alongside a robust selection of wines and beers.
In terms of pricing, dining at Evelyn is relatively aligned with other upscale restaurants and steakhouses in Dallas, making it a night out worth considering despite the possibility of higher server tips for premium selections.
Though the restaurant’s unique energy might not resonate with everyone, its blend of fun, glamour, and high-end ambiance makes Evelyn an ideal destination for celebrations.
With its aesthetically pleasing environment and vibrant atmosphere, Evelyn should be on the radar for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable night out in Dallas.
