Protests have erupted in Los Angeles in response to recent immigration raids carried out by federal authorities, leading President Donald Trump to deploy 2,000 National Guardsmen to the city. The White House issued a statement confirming the decision, stating it aims to disperse the demonstrations sparked by the raids.
The unrest escalated over the weekend, particularly in Paramount, California, where law enforcement used tear gas and flashbangs to disperse crowds. Assemblymember José Luis Solache reported that four individuals were arrested during these confrontations.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt labeled the deployments a necessary response to what she described as an “invasion of illegal criminals.” She criticized California’s Democratic leaders for supposedly neglecting their duty to ensure public safety amidst the turmoil.
