Arlington Restaurants Shine in Northern Virginia Magazine’s Best of NoVA 2025 Awards

The dining scene in Arlington has recently garnered significant attention, with ten local restaurants being recognized in Northern Virginia Magazine’s prestigious “Best of NoVA 2025” list. This annual list highlights the top food establishments across the Northern Virginia region, and Arlington’s culinary landscape has showcased its diversity and quality.

Among the standout winners is Call Your Mother, celebrated as the Best Bagel spot. This unique, self-described “Jew-ish” bagel shop and deli, which originated in D.C., now has a kiosk at Water Park. Their menu features a delightful assortment of egg sandwiches, latkes, pastries, and traditional Jewish deli offerings.

Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe has taken home the title of Best Bakery/Pâtisserie. This longstanding bakery, a fixture in Arlington for five decades, offers custom cakes, various pastries, fresh bread, and deli items. The shop marked a milestone this year by celebrating its 50th anniversary in February.

Another winner is Bob & Edith’s Diner, which was honored as the Best Breakfast Diner. Family-owned and operating 24 hours a day, this diner is known for its classic American fare and Southern cuisine, with three locations scattered throughout Arlington.

Also making an impression in the seafood category is Quarterdeck, recognized as the Best Crabs. A staple since 1979, this beloved crab shack is renowned for its fresh variety of crustacean specialties, including blue crabs, crab cakes, and Chesapeake crab soup, making it a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts.

The Italian Store was crowned as the Best Deli/Sandwich Shop, gaining praise for its “Milano” and “Roma” sub sandwiches. Located in both Westover and Lyon Village, these sandwiches are filled with high-quality deli meats such as prosciutto and Genoa salami, earning commendation from the magazine for their flavor.

In the realm of sweet treats, Good Company Doughnuts and Cafe secured the Best Doughnut Shop title. This shop specializes in a variety of both yeast-raised and cake donuts, offering everything from classic honey-dipped to unique seasonal varieties, along with specialties like maple frosted and blueberry buttercream donuts.

Carbonara, a newcomer in Virginia Square, earned recognition as the Best Italian restaurant. Known for its unique method of preparing its namesake dish live in a flaming wheel of Parmesan cheese, Carbonara has quickly become a local favorite since opening last spring under restaurateur Mike Cordero.

The Best Peruvian Chicken honor went to El Pollo Rico, a local institution that has been serving charcoal-broiled chicken since 1988. Located in a Wilson Blvd strip mall, this restaurant is celebrated for its crispy skin, alongside delicious sides such as fried plantains and yuca.

Acme Pie Co. has also made its mark by winning the Best Pie category. The recently relocated establishment is celebrated for its extensive selection of both sweet and savory pies, featuring flavors such as sour cherry, coconut custard, vegan apple, and seasonal berry variations.

Lastly, Yume Sushi was recognized as the Best Sushi spot, boasting a diverse menu filled with over 26 creative signature rolls. With ingredients such as shrimp tempura and soft shell crab, Yume Sushi offers several chef’s specials, including garlic butter miso scallops and a luxurious toro tartare made with bluefin tuna, French caviar, and gold garnish.
