Bryce Dallas Howard’s Ideal Sunday: Hot Chocolates, Art, and Family Time

In a recent interview, actress and director Bryce Dallas Howard shared a glimpse into her ideal Sunday, laden with family, art, and her love for hot chocolate.

Having recently recovered from laryngitis, Howard, known for her roles in the ‘Jurassic World’ series and her direction in popular series like ‘The Mandalorian,’ detailed her favorite weekend activities.

Her Sunday routine begins promptly at 7 a.m. with the aroma of hot chocolate filling her home. Having replaced coffee with hot chocolate due to stomach sensitivities, Howard considers at-home hot chocolate indispensable and even boasts a specialized maker gifted by the producers of her latest film, ‘Deep Cover.’

By 8 a.m., she enjoys a stroll along Dockweiler Beach with one of her dogs, relishing the scenic beauty and the exercise together. With two dogs in the family, she typically opts for her younger pup on these outings, who can handle longer walks. After enjoying the beach, Howard indulges her sweet tooth with gluten-free doughnuts from Sidecar Doughnuts, her ideal Sunday treat, especially if they have the Old Fashion doughnut available.

As the morning unfolds, Howard makes her way to Graphaids in Culver City, a family-owned art supply store that has become pivotal in her journey at the Milan Art Institute, where she’ll graduate soon from an online fine arts program. Her time at the store has evolved from unfamiliarity to a confidence in selecting art supplies as she hones her skills in various mediums, including oil painting and mixed media.

Following her art supply shopping, by 1 p.m. she gravitates toward brunch. Whether in Culver City at Destroyer, with its plant-centric offerings or at Gjelina in Venice, she seeks out great food that caters to her family’s diverse dietary preferences. Not only is she partial to the relaxed atmosphere at Gjelina, where the wait time allows for strolls along Abbot Kinney, but she also appreciates the chance to catch up with her best friend.

If brunch is enjoyed in Culver City, a subsequent visit to Arcana, her favorite bookstore, is likely to follow. The walkability of these neighborhoods resonates with her, harking back to her East Coast upbringing and her time at NYU.

The afternoon brings a chocolate fix, as Howard loves visiting John Kelly Chocolates in Santa Monica to savor high-end treats. As the day winds down, she orders dinner delivery from Burger Lounge, known for its classic burger and gluten-free options, often with her son picking it up to save on delivery costs.

For dinner, AOC wine bar also finds its way into her Sunday routine, particularly when she enjoys their bacon-wrapped dates while seated at the bar, preferring a light meal or snacks over a hefty dinner.

As dusk approaches, Howard has a unique family tradition known as ‘pajama walks,’ originally designed to keep her children on a consistent schedule. These evening strolls have evolved into cherished moments between her and her husband, sometimes including their children and providing them with quality time outdoors.

In the evening, the family might unwind by watching ‘Landscape Artist of the Year,’ a British show that often serves as inspiration for Howard’s own painting endeavors, with sessions typically reserved for her portfolio work before bed.

Bryce Dallas Howard’s Sundays showcase a blend of leisure and creativity, capturing her love for family, food, and the arts in her vibrant Los Angeles life.
