In other news, Dr. Jon Vogel has been honored as the ‘New Dentist of the Year’ by the Dallas County Dental Society. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding contributions amongst its members, celebrating those who uphold the high standards of the dental profession.
Dr. Vogel, who was born and raised in Dallas, embarked on his dentistry career fueled by a formative volunteer experience at the Nelson-Tebedo Clinic. His passion was ignited there as he witnessed the transformative impact of dental care on individuals living with HIV.
He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas before earning his dental degree from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, where he ranked in the top 10 of his class.
Returning to Dallas, Dr. Vogel took ownership of Knox Dental in 2022. He serves on the board of directors for Resource Center and is actively involved in volunteer work at Dental Health Arlington. He has also organized dental mission trips to Jamaica to provide care for underserved populations.
His areas of expertise include general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and sleep dentistry, particularly focusing on treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.
Dr. Vogel also provides cosmetic treatments, including clear aligners, whitening, and veneers. When he is not practicing dentistry, he enjoys traveling, relaxing at the beach, and spending quality time with his Italian greyhound, Sofia.
Lastly, the Anthony Bobrow Trust has continued its long-standing support of local organizations that serve the HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ communities, recently donating funds to several such groups. By the end of this year, the Bobrow Trust will have donated nearly $3 million over the past seven years.
The trust was established by Tony Bobrow, the late owner of the Hidden Door, who passed away in early 2018. Since then, the trust has significantly contributed to various nonprofits focused on these communities, surpassing $1 million in donations over the last three years alone.
In 2023 and 2024, the Bobrow Trust contributed over $750,000, with plans to distribute an additional $100,000 later this year.
As stated by Harvey Meissner, president and general manager of the Hidden Door and trustee for the Bobrow Trust, there are increasing demands on these organizations due to a reduction in federal and state funding, making the support they provide even more vital.
The ongoing donations and community support exemplify the trust’s commitment to making a positive impact, ensuring lifesaving services remain available to those who need them most.
Even after facing challenges, such as shutting down during the COVID epidemic in 2020, the Hidden Door’s patrons and Tony Bobrow’s wise investments continue to facilitate meaningful contributions to the community.
