The Arts Community Alliance (TACA) has revealed plans to distribute $650,000 in unrestricted funding through its 2025 Catalyst Grants, benefitting 50 arts organizations across Dallas County.
This funding approach contrasts with project-specific grants, as the Catalyst Grants provide crucial unrestricted financial support to nonprofit arts entities following a thorough evaluation process conducted over ten months by TACA volunteers.
Maura Sheffler, the president and executive director of TACA, expressed pride in the annual grant distribution, emphasizing the significant impact these funds have on the local arts community.
“We know they provide very important funding to the arts community,” Sheffler stated.
The announcement of these grants comes in the wake of concerning cuts from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), which recently withdrew awards previously allocated to cultural institutions nationwide.
In total, thirteen arts groups in North Texas, including notable organizations such as Bishop Arts Theatre Center and Kitchen Dog Theater Company, faced the loss of more than $345,000 in funding.
Despite these challenges, TACA had already selected the recipients of the Catalyst Grants prior to the NEA’s funding cuts, and Sheffler noted that TACA is actively communicating with grantees to explore continued support avenues.
“This is definitely a very important year to support the arts and cultural community,” Sheffler added.
As part of its mission to bolster the arts sector, TACA also manages other initiatives, including the TACA New Works Fund, which focuses on enhancing arts in underrepresented communities.
Moreover, TACA offers Pop-Up Grants of up to $7,500 every other month to support different artists, along with arts-centric professional development programs such as the Arts Accelerator and the Amplifier Workshops.
Sheffler stressed the significance of community support in ensuring the sustainability of the arts sector, stating, “The more people that support the arts, the more sustainable we will be able to be as a sector.”
