The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) has demonstrated its prowess on the international stage, securing back-to-back 4-0 victories against the Republic of Ireland in a series of friendly matches.
These matches not only showcased the team’s dominant performance but also marked significant milestones for several players, particularly from Reign FC, who have been instrumental in the early stages of the 2025 NWSL season.
Leading the squad during this international window was veteran forward Lynn Biyendolo.
At the age of 35, Biyendolo is the oldest player on the June/July camp roster, boasting an impressive 82 career caps.
She achieved two notable milestones in the team’s recent encounter with Ireland; not only did she captain the side for the first time, but she also netted her 25th international goal.
The goal came as the USWNT effectively circulated the ball, with Sam Meza, Emma Sears, and Biyendolo orchestrating the offensive efforts.
Sears expertly chipped a cross into the box, where Biyendolo was perfectly positioned to volley the ball into the lower left corner of the net.
Another standout player, 18-year-old Jordyn Bugg, made her debut for the USWNT on June 26, entering the match in the 73rd minute to replace Naomi Girma.
With this appearance, she became the 280th player in USWNT history to earn a cap and the youngest debutante since Olivia Moultrie, who debuted at 18 years and 76 days in 2023.
Bugg’s next opportunity came in the following match, where she earned her first start and played a full 90 minutes alongside defenders Emily Sams, Tara McKeown, and Izzy Rodriguez.
Goalkeeper Claudia Dickey also made her mark during the June 26 match, earning her first cap and becoming the 29th goalkeeper in USWNT history.
Although she faced limited action, as Ireland’s attempts to score were mostly off target, she did make a crucial save against Kyra Carusa’s attempt in the 61st minute, although the play was ultimately ruled offside.
Midfielder Sam Meza, meanwhile, made her debut starting on June 29 against Ireland.
Known for her strength and tenacity, she controlled the midfield and connected quick passes throughout the match, contributing significantly to the team’s possession play.
Meza played 87 minutes before being substituted for Rose Lavelle.
With her debut, she and Izzy Rodriguez became the 281st and 282nd players to earn caps for the USWNT under coach Emma Hayes.
Additionally, they marked their place as the 12th and 13th players of Hispanic descent to appear for the national team.
The USWNT’s recent friendly matches not only celebrated their victories on the pitch but also highlighted the emergence of new talent and the continued contributions of seasoned players.
As the team gears up for upcoming competitions, these milestones reflect a promising future for women’s soccer in the United States.
