Celebrating Culture Through Food and Events in Denver

Denver is set to come alive with an exciting array of events that celebrate Asian culture, children’s creativity, and immersive storytelling, offering a wealth of experiences for food enthusiasts and families alike.

On Monday, April 28, the parking lot at Adobo, a Filipino/Latin restaurant located at 3901 Federal St., will host Friends on Federal, a lively pop-up event showcasing at least ten Asian-owned food businesses.

This event will feature an enticing lineup including Panda Bao, Rocky Mountain Momo, Pho King Rapidos, Die Die Must Try, Kids Table, and many more, running from 5 to 9 p.m.

The organizers highlight the importance of these culinary traditions, stating, “For AANHPI businesses, a lot of these ingredients are tied to our roots, sourced from the places our stories began. Now more than ever is the time to show up for our local businesses that keep this city interesting.”

Friends on Federal is part of the broader celebration during the third annual Mile High Asian Food Week, taking place from Sunday, April 27 to May 3.

This week-long event encourages food lovers to indulge in various Asian cuisines offered by 80 AANHPI-owned vendors, featuring special discounts, secret menu items, and unique offerings.

Food enthusiasts can learn more about the wide range of culinary experiences available by visiting milehighafw.com.

Following the food festivities, Denver will host SeriesFest, returning for its 11th season from Tuesday, April 29 to May 4.

This festival will include numerous public screenings of new and returning television series, spanning both popular streaming networks and independent projects seeking sales opportunities.

Similar to a feature-film festival, SeriesFest offers panels, podcasts, special events, and awards, making it an exciting gathering for both creators and fans.

Prominent figures in the entertainment industry, such as Emmy-winning comic W. Kamau Bell and talk show host Maury Povich, will be in attendance, alongside actors Stephen Moyer, Rhea Seehorn, and Lisa Ann Walter.

Special events will unfold at venues like Asterisk Denver and the Sie FilmCenter, culminating in a highly anticipated comedy concert featuring Amy Schumer at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, with tickets starting at $74 available via axs.com.

For those interested in participating, festival badges range from $139 to $1,000, with individual screening passes starting at $15. More information can be found at seriesfest.com.

On Sunday, families can enjoy a delightful celebration of Día del Niño, or Children’s Day, which brings an array of free activities for all ages.

The Denver Art Museum will host its 23rd annual Día del Niño event with free admission, live performances, and bilingual art-making activities throughout the Golden Triangle area’s cultural institutions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Simultaneously, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science will present its major Día del Niño event, supported by the Mexican Cultural Center, featuring live music, dance, and science demonstrations alongside complimentary museum admission.

Families are encouraged to explore additional libraries, museums, and kid-friendly programming by visiting denverartmuseum.org or mccdenver.org/dia-del-nino.

Finally, this weekend, the immersive experience Inheritance Kitchen will conclude its run, inviting visitors to step inside a captivating historical setting in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood.

This unique experience blends performance art with history, allowing participants to explore the lives of three families—Japanese, Latine/Chicano, and Black—who inhabit the same house across different decades.

Through this journey, stories of social injustice and personal loss will intertwine with themes of resilience and love as conveyed through food.

As the community engages with these diverse narratives, attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on their own histories and the ways in which these stories are passed down.

Whether savoring delicious food, enjoying family activities, or exploring profound stories, Denver’s upcoming events provide rich opportunities for connection and celebration.
