A parent has been accused of entering Bailey Middle School in March and threatening to shoot and kill a teacher, reportedly in response to the alleged mocking of her daughter.
The incident occurred on March 28, when the parent was escorted off campus by school district staff before the Clark County School District police were contacted.
According to Lt. Bryan Zink, CCSD police submitted two warrants for arrest based on suspicions of threats to a school employee and disturbance of a school, which were filed with the Clark County district attorney’s office.
The identity of the accused parent has not been disclosed.
In a letter addressed to the woman, Principal Danielle Duterte banned her from the school’s premises, highlighting the “serious threats” made against the teacher.
The letter documented chilling statements allegedly made by the woman, including: “I will shoot you,” and a statement regarding her boyfriend: “Me and my boyfriend will catch you outside. You will never be safe as a teacher here.”
Additionally, the woman threatened a male student and lingered in the school’s parking lot for about 20 minutes after her removal, further escalating the situation.
In another part of her rant, she warned, “You are going to have to lock these doors. I will put you in a hard lockdown,” according to details from the principal’s letter.
These threats come amid ongoing concerns over school safety at the Clark County School District, where internal emails reveal that Bailey Middle School has been waiting for a security gate installation since 2019, with the project not expected to start until 2027.
Abraham Camejo, a member of the Clark County School District Bond Oversight Committee, brought these concerns to light during a meeting, stating that the lack of a security gate has been a longstanding issue.
“We still do not have a gate like this and like other middle schools have in place,” Camejo said, emphasizing the ongoing safety concerns raised by staff over the years.
As a father, he expressed his frustration and fear for students’ safety, stating, “I can’t sit here not prepared to protect our students.”
Camejo called attention to alarming sentiments expressed by principals and staff, who conveyed a feeling of unsafety in the school environment.
“This has been going on for a while,” he noted.
At the meeting, Brandon McLaughlin, assistant superintendent of the construction and development division, acknowledged the urgency of the matter but indicated that any actions would require further reporting to Superintendent Jhone Ebert and the Clark County School Board.
He also highlighted the possibility of proceeding with emergency measures without board approval, though legal constraints remain.
In light of the recent incident, the Clark County School District has reiterated its commitment to the safety and wellness of all students, focusing on enhancing security measures across its campuses.
“CCSD continues the implementation of security enhancements that began on District campuses before the 2022–2023 school year,” a statement from the district read, outlining their focus on creating secure entry points, improving perimeter fencing, and upgrading security camera systems.
