Memorial Day Weekend Weather Forecast for Houston and Beyond

This Memorial Day weekend promises to be predominantly warm and dry in the Houston area, with temperatures climbing to steamy heights.

Today and tomorrow are expected to be mostly clear, with rain chances remaining low—around just 5 percent.

While a stray shower or thunderstorm could pop up, it is likely to be very isolated, allowing most residents to enjoy their weekend plans without interruption.

As we move into Sunday, the odds of precipitation increase marginally to about 10 percent.

Some pop-up showers or very isolated thunderstorms may be possible, but the overall trend still leads to a mostly pleasant day for outdoor activities.

However, the situation becomes a bit more complicated on Memorial Day itself.

Forecast models are predicting a potential cluster of thunderstorms moving in from the north late Sunday night, which could linger into Monday morning.

After a possible lull in the storms during the day on Monday, another round of showers may make an appearance by evening.

As such, while it might not be necessary to cancel any plans just yet, residents should be prepared for the possibility of rain, especially on Monday.

If you’re planning to travel throughout Texas this holiday weekend, conditions should also be generally favorable until late Sunday.

However, some areas, particularly between the Permian Basin and the Panhandle, might experience stronger isolated storms, with a slight risk (2 out of 5) for severe weather around Wichita Falls on Saturday.

By Sunday, the risk of severe storms is elevated, especially from the Caprock region into North Texas.

These storms could contribute to the weather forecast for Houston late Sunday night or Monday morning.

On Monday, the risk for more severe weather shifts toward the Hill Country and Central Texas, extending up through the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

In short, the areas between Houston and Dallas may face some severe weather as we progress into Monday afternoon and evening.

Looking back to past Memorial Day weekends in Texas, flash flooding has often been a concern.

Currently, the flood risk seems to be about average, with no significant flash flooding forecasts emerging at this time.

On the temperature front, residents should brace themselves for heat.

The combination of high temperatures and humidity will make it feel like it’s between 100 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit from tomorrow through Monday.

Actual highs are expected to peak in the mid-90s, with morning temperatures starting in the upper 70s.

The coastal areas may see moderately cooler conditions while regions further inland are likely to experience hotter temperatures.

As we look toward the week following Memorial Day, temperatures are projected to decrease slightly due to increased cloud cover and the expectation of rainy weather.

While it won’t be rainy across the board every day, residents can anticipate multiple rounds of thunderstorms throughout the week ahead.

In summary, enjoy your holiday plans while staying aware of the weather fluctuations, especially as we head into Monday.
