Exciting Low-Cost Events to Kick Off Summer in Las Vegas

As summer begins this weekend, Las Vegas is buzzing with a variety of inexpensive events perfect for families and individuals looking to celebrate the season.

From concerts to cultural festivals, there’s something for everyone in the valley.

One of the major highlights this weekend is the HAAPI Roots event on Sunday, May 25, at Downtown Container Park.

This celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month runs from noon until 6 p.m. and features local businesses, community vendors, a treehouse playground, along with food and drink specials.

Best of all, entry to this vibrant event is free!

For those who enjoy biking, the City of Henderson is hosting a Glow Bike Ride on the evening of Saturday, May 24.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets while glow sticks and neon bike decorations will be provided.

Bike decorating will kick off at 7:30 p.m., followed by a safety course for kids and an illuminating ride around the Equestrian Trail Loops starting at 8 p.m. Entry for this fun-filled experience is just $10.

Another exciting option is the Electric Avenue – The 80’s MTV Experience concert on Saturday night at Henderson’s Water Street Plaza Amphitheater beginning at 7 p.m.

This free concert promises to take kids and adults alike on a nostalgic journey through the New Wave and Radio Pop sounds of the 1980s.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best 80s-inspired attire, and food and drink vendors will be available on site.

Additionally, the Nevada Shakespeare Festival is presenting ‘The Comedy of Errors’ this Saturday at Aliante Nature Discovery Park, starting at 5:30 p.m.

This unique performance of a Shakespeare classic offers a fresh perspective on an age-old story and is free to the public as well.

For music lovers, the Downtown Rocks Concert Series is making a return to the Fremont Street Experience with a lineup of exciting performances.

On Saturday, May 24, Hinder will take the Main Street Stage at 8 p.m., while Drowning Pool and Saliva will perform at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. respectively on the 1st Street Stage.

On Sunday, May 25, Alien Ant Farm and Jet will perform on the 3rd Street Stage at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. respectively.

This series provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy live music for free amidst the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Las Vegas.

Additionally, the Higher Ground Spring Concert Series will showcase talents from the Live Arts Collective and Nevada Ballet Theatre II this weekend.

Performances are set to take place on Saturday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 25, at 5 p.m. at the West Las Vegas Library Theatre.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and of course, the performances are free to attend.

For families looking for a fun movie night, the Movies on the Green series returns to The District at Green Valley Ranch with a screening of ‘Despicable Me 4’ on Saturday, May 24.

Guests can bring their own blankets, towels, and camping chairs, with the movie starting at sunset for an enjoyable evening under the stars.

In Boulder City, the Best Dam Barbecue Challenge makes its return this weekend, running from noon to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 23, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 24.

This family-friendly tradition features live music, delectable barbecue, car and bike shows, plus vendors and more, all free to enter!

Music enthusiasts will also want to attend the Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra’s Spring 2025 Concert, taking place on Sunday, May 25, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the College of Southern Nevada’s Jay Morrison Recital Hall in North Las Vegas.

While tickets are free, they are required for entry.

Lastly, families can enjoy a free screening of ‘Lilo & Stitch’ (2002) as part of the City of North Las Vegas’ Movie Madness series on Friday, May 23, at Hartke Park starting at dusk.

Attendees can bring picnic baskets, coolers, and blankets for a cozy evening of entertainment.
