HOUSTON — The Houston location of Hooters, a well-known wing restaurant chain, has been closed as part of a larger strategy following the company’s recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
In March, Hooters of America filed for bankruptcy protection, aiming to sell its company-owned restaurants to a group of franchisees as a method to reposition itself for future success.
A representative from Hooters announced on Thursday that the decision to close certain company-owned locations, including the one on FM 1960 near I-45 in Houston, was made after careful consideration.
Consumers attempting to reach the FM 1960 location are met with a recorded message confirming its permanent closure, and online maps also reflect this status.
This closure is part of a broader downsizing that affects around 30 locations across several states, including Texas, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Hooters joins a growing list of major restaurant chains—such as Red Lobster and TGI Friday’s—that have recently been compelled to file for bankruptcy protection.
The Hooters brand was acquired in 2019 by private equity firms Nord Bay Capital and TriArtisan Capital Advisors.
The new ownership group includes existing franchisees and original founders of Hooters, who together manage over 30% of all U.S. franchises.
Neil Kiefer, the CEO of Hooters Inc., representing the franchisee group, assured stakeholders of their commitment to revitalizing the Hooters brand.
Kiefer stated they aim to restore Hooters to its foundational principles by transitioning to an entirely franchise-based model post-bankruptcy.
As the company undergoes restructuring, all Hooters locations are expected to shift to being franchisee-owned.
