Cocina De La Tia, or ‘Aunt’s Kitchen,’ is the latest culinary gem in Marietta, located just a short walk from Marietta Square on Lemon Street.
The restaurant has quickly gained popularity, and many locals are raving about its incredible flavors and welcoming atmosphere.
Veronica Martinez, the owner, has deep-rooted ties to Mexican cuisine, having grown up in Guanajuato, Mexico.
From an early age, Veronica was immersed in the traditions of her family kitchen, often waking before dawn to help prepare the fire for making homemade tortillas, a task she cherished even when her siblings did not.
Now, as the owner of Cocina De La Tia, she is sharing her passion for authentic Mexican food with the Marietta community.
Upon entering the restaurant, guests are greeted with vibrant colors and an inviting atmosphere, punctuated by a stunning mural depicting two women making tortillas in a traditional Mexican village.
This mural not only enhances the aesthetic of the space but also symbolizes the dedication to authenticity and cultural heritage that defines Cocina De La Tia.
During our recent visit to Cocina De La Tia for lunch, my wife Cecilie and I decided to sample a variety of menu items to get a true taste of what the restaurant offers.
We started with the homemade chunky guacamole, which was served with crispy tortillas.
The guacamole was refreshed with fresh lime juice and an abundance of cilantro, a divisive yet cherished herb for many.
Next, we indulged in a trio of tacos, which showcased distinct flavors.
The tacos included beef asada, spicy chorizo, and a pork head taco, the latter of which quickly became my favorite for its tenderness and rich flavor.
While some diners might hesitate at the thought of a pork head taco, I urge others to give it a try—it’s a surprisingly delightful option packed with perfectly seasoned meat, onions, and fresh herbs.
Cocina De La Tia also features an array of salsas available at the table, each providing an extra layer of excitement to the dining experience.
The mild salsa with blended avocado is a great intro, while the medium red salsa delivers just the right amount of heat, and the tangy brown salsa packs a tantalizing punch to your palate.
Veronica shared her philosophy, emphasizing her belief that the restaurant feels like family due to the staff comprising her two daughters and others who work closely with her.
She aptly states, ‘I am Tia, the Aunt that makes it all happen,’ solidifying her role as both a leader and a familial figure within the establishment.
In a location that has seen multiple restaurants come and go, there is a strong feeling that Cocina De La Tia is set to thrive.
After our visit, I am already looking forward to returning for their breakfast chilaquiles—a dish served with a choice of protein, a fried egg, rice, and beans, topped with queso, which I plan to enjoy as my only meal that day.
The dessert offerings at Cocina De La Tia are equally enticing, with options like choco flan and homemade churro sundaes promising to perfect any meal.
Cocina De La Tia is not only a dining establishment but a culinary experience that reflects love, tradition, and community spirit.
