Arts District Liberty Station is thrilled to announce the beginning of its seventh year of the Collaborative program, which is designed to enhance community connections through creativity and conversation.
This year’s program features a lineup of exciting projects that unite local artists and organizations from various disciplines, all focused on exploring timely themes that encourage public engagement.
The 2025 Collaborative cohort includes San Diego Craft Collective, Visions Museum of Textile Art, and Apt 4 Music, all collaborating with fellow tenants to create dynamic hands-on events and installations throughout the year.
These initiatives are part of an ongoing commitment to position Arts District Liberty Station as a vibrant hub for arts, culture, and collaboration in San Diego.
Lisa Johnson, president & CEO of Arts District Liberty Station, emphasizes the significance of the Collaborative program.
In her words, “The Collaborative program continues to be a powerful platform for our tenants to explore diversity, creativity, and social impact through the lens of interdisciplinary arts.”
A sneak peek of the upcoming events showcases a variety of activities designed to engage the community.
First up is Fiber Fest, a joint initiative between San Diego Craft Collective, Apricot Yarn & Supply, and Visions Museum of Textile Art, set to take place from June 13 to June 15.
This three-day celebration will focus on natural textiles and sustainable craft, and the program kicks off on June 13 with a Sit & Stitch and Fiber & Fabric Swap, taking place from 6 to 8 p.m.
This opening night invites fiber enthusiasts to bring their knitting, crocheting, weaving, or spinning projects to come together for a casual social gathering.
The evening will conclude with a creative swap, allowing everyone to leave with a handmade item and potentially new friendships.
On June 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can attend the main event featuring live artist demonstrations and hands-on stations.
This will offer attendees the chance to explore the fiber journey from raw material to finished piece, fostering a blend of education, art-making, and community interaction.
Fiber-focused workshops will be available for purchase on June 15, providing a deeper exploration into specific techniques for both novices and experienced makers.
Next on the calendar is Make Music Day: Musical Playground, scheduled for June 21 from 2 to 9 p.m.
In celebration of International Make Music Day, Apt 4 Music and San Diego Craft Collective are hosting a free, family-friendly event on the North Promenade.
The highlight of this event will be the Musical Playground, a mobile sound space constructed from upcycled materials, designed to foster play and creativity.
This interactive installation will feature instruments such as drums, chimes, and xylophones, accessible to participants of all ages.
The evening will feature tribute band The Red NOT Chili Peppers as headliners, with the event being free to attend and VIP tickets available for those interested in upgraded access.
Later in the year, on September 6 and October 3, another engaging program will be unveiled: Stitching Stories: What Is Home?
This two-part workshop will be presented by Visions Museum of Textile Art and San Diego Writers, Ink, focusing on the concept of “home” through writing and fabric.
The first session on September 6 will invite participants to write personal reflections on their definition of home.
The second session on October 3 will translate these stories into textile art, which will be displayed alongside audio recordings at Visions Museum.
The outcome will be an immersive exhibit combining stitched and spoken narratives, engaging the public with various perspectives on identity, memory, and place.
