Iowa Woman Arrested for Las Vegas Strip Shooting Over Joke

An Iowa woman has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on the Las Vegas Strip last month, stemming from a joke that apparently agitated her.

Secret White, 20, was taken into custody last week and is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, she was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on July 10 and remains in custody as of Wednesday morning.

White made her initial court appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court on Tuesday, where a public defender was assigned to her case.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. on July 22.

Metro officers responded to the scene on June 8, around 4:45 a.m., after receiving reports of a shooting on the 2600 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South.

A male victim called dispatch to inform them that he had been shot by an unknown woman.

The man recounted to detectives how he and his friends were returning to their hotel after a night out when they encountered a group that included White.

He jokingly directed a comment towards White’s group, which led her to become visibly upset.

In response, White pulled out a handgun from her tote bag and aimed it at the victim and his friends before firing shots as they attempted to flee.

The victim and his companions ran towards the Circus Circus valet area, where they were assisted by armed security personnel who alerted law enforcement about the shooting.

Police obtained security footage from the casino that captured the entire incident.

The video showed White among a group of six adults walking north on the Strip when they encountered the victim and his friends.

The footage corroborated the victim’s account, showing White produce a firearm, drop it momentarily, retrieve it, and then fire several rounds in the direction of the fleeing victim.

As the incident unfolded, White and her group were seen walking towards the Circus Circus parking lot afterward.

The group split into two parties, with White later entering a white Mercedes sedan that drove south on the Strip.

Detectives traced the vehicle’s temporary Arizona license plate to an unnamed owner, which matched the description of a male observed in the Circus Circus security footage.

Further investigation led the authorities to discover an Instagram account linked to this male, featuring a recent post of him with White, as well as images showing her in the same jacket worn by the shooter.

Detectives learned that White returned to Las Vegas on July 3, after which she was apprehended near the intersection of Tropicana and Paradise Roads.

Upon her arrest, White was interviewed by detectives and acknowledged her presence on the Strip during the shooting but denied firing the weapon at the victim or his companions.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly situations can escalate, especially in high-traffic areas like the Las Vegas Strip.
