Currently balancing the demands of military life with academic ambitions, Lam is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer networks and cybersecurity through the University of Maryland Global Campus, proving that service and self-development go hand in hand.
Reflecting on his Houston roots, Lam credits the city’s dynamic community for teaching him the power of collaboration and open-mindedness.
“Growing up in Houston, I learned that success often comes from embracing different perspectives,” he shared.
“When people work together, no matter their background, there’s nothing they can’t accomplish.”
Lam’s journey with the U.S. Navy began 16 years ago, but the seeds were planted long before enlistment.
Encouraged by his family and inspired by his early exposure to military discipline through Junior ROTC, he chose the Navy as both a calling and a commitment to growth.
A twist of fate tied his recruiter back to the same school district, further solidifying the path ahead.
Serving aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, one of the Navy’s most strategic and powerful aircraft carriers, Lam is part of a legacy that has defined American sea power for over a century.
These carriers not only project strength and ensure global stability but also stand ready for humanitarian missions, disaster relief, and safeguarding international trade routes.
As the U.S. Navy celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, Lam’s personal story is a shining example of the Navy’s enduring mission: to defend freedom and promote prosperity by cultivating a diverse, talented force.
With more than 90% of global commerce moving across oceans and the digital world reliant on secure undersea infrastructure, Lam and his fellow sailors represent the frontline in ensuring America’s future remains strong.

Lam is quick to credit his support network, especially his wife, Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman Angeli Ancho, whose mentorship and unwavering encouragement helped shape his career.
He also honors the mentors who guided him early on, including Chief Warrant Officer 4 Tim Wheeler, retired Chief Aviation Electronics Technician Ernest Black, Senior Chief Aviation Electronics Technician Terry West, and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Will Rexroth, all of whom played pivotal roles during his first command aboard the USS Harry S. Truman.
