As Philly gears up for summer post-Memorial Day, the city’s culinary landscape is buzzing with exciting developments.
Among the most notable is the 13th birthday celebration of Hop Sing Laundromat, a renowned cocktail bar in Chinatown that has played a pivotal role in reviving the city’s cocktail culture.
Owner Lê is marking this milestone with a summer rollback promotion, offering 13 classic cocktails for just $10 every first Thursday of the month starting June 5th.
In a bold move, Lê is also ensuring his staff benefits from the lowered prices by including a 20% tip on tabs during these Thursday specials.
The exact duration of this promotion remains flexible, depending on its popularity, but it promises an opportunity for patrons to enjoy high-quality cocktails at a discount.
In Rittenhouse, Heather Annechiarico and Chris Fetfatzes are unveiling a new location for their WineDive concept, moving from South Street to a space formerly occupied by a nail salon at 1534 Sansom Street.
This new iteration will feature retro décor reminiscent of 1970s and 1980s Hollywood hideaways, and will offer a vibrant selection of 20 wines by the glass, along with an approachable food menu that includes comfort items.
WineDive emphasizes providing quality wine and food at accessible prices, with plans for no-reservations and walk-in-only service.
To further enhance their offerings, the upstairs space will house Liquorette, a luxury cocktail bar inspired by European trends, set to open later this year.
Meanwhile, Amma’s South Indian Cuisine is expanding, with a fifth location set to open on May 29th at 7000 Midlantic Drive in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
This new restaurant will incorporate a tandoori oven for fresh naan and feature an extensive menu centered on authentic South Indian cuisine, with buffet services available.
Not only is Amma’s growing geographically, but it’s also moving its original Chestnut Street location to a new address and has plans for additional openings in Bucks County and beyond.
In another significant update, Lacroix at the Rittenhouse is introducing a revamped menu aimed at modernizing the fine dining experience while merging it with a more approachable atmosphere.
The new offerings, designed by Chef Eric Leveillee, will focus on rustic luxury with dishes that include seasonal seafood and comforting main offerings, paired with a reimagined cocktail program by James Beard winner Danny Childs.
Lacroix is reclaiming its position in Philadelphia’s fine dining scene, shedding the formality of the past while retaining the elegance that has always defined it.
Also in Rittenhouse, Levain Bakery is teaming up with Milk Jawn for a summer collaboration featuring cookie and ice cream combinations at an affordable price.
As for Bluebird Distilling in Phoenixville, plans are underway for a $2 million overhaul to create Bluebird Social: Cocktails & Kitchen, comprising an upgraded space complete with a new bar area and a focus on Neapolitan-style pizzas.
With all these changes wrapping up quickly, Philly foodies have a lot to be excited about this summer.
