Exciting Weekend Events in Los Angeles: June 20-22

As the weekend of June 20-22 approaches, Los Angeles is gearing up for an array of events that promise fun and entertainment for all ages.

Among the highlights is the KCRW Summer Nights party at the California African American Museum (CAAM) on Friday evening. Starting at 7 p.m., this all-ages dance party will feature inclusive performances from Guest DJ Damar Davis and KCRW DJ Novena Carmel. Food trucks, a beer garden, and crafts will also be on offer, with guests receiving after-hours access to the museum’s exhibitions showcasing artists like Awol Erizku and Tatyana Fazlalizadeh. Best of all, attendance is free.

For those using public transportation, the E Line can be taken to the Expo Park/USC station, making the event easily accessible.

On Saturday, there will be a diverse range of events across the city. Shakespeare By the Sea continues its 28th season with performances of Julius Caesar at Recreation Park’s Bandshell in Long Beach. Chinatown’s tea house, Steep, will host its Steep After Dark Food & Jazz Night on Friday, featuring a vibrant Jazz Jam Session as part of its series. With flavorful bites and craft tea cocktails on the menu, attendees can expect a night filled with spontaneous musical improvisation.

The Music Center’s Dance DTLA series returns on Friday with a Bollywood dance night, but be aware that the venue has changed to Walt Disney Concert Hall, running from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. As always, this event is free to the public.

Grand Performances kicks off its summer season, having been postponed previously. The series will feature a poetry event curated by Consuelo G. Flores on Friday, followed by a John Coltrane tribute led by Isaiah Collier on Saturday. Both evenings will commence at 6 p.m. with free admission.

On Saturday, Santa Monica will host the Pride Festival on Third Street Promenade, featuring live music and an array of games and themed snacks. This family-friendly event is free and suitable for attendees of all ages.

Art aficionados will enjoy the opening reception of new exhibitions at the Vincent Price Art Museum on Saturday, showcasing works focused on portraiture and Latina lesbian activism. Guests can expect DJ sets, a cash bar, and live drawing activities while exploring the exhibitions from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Movie lovers should not miss the Matinees on the Mountain event at Mount Wilson Observatory, featuring Sci-Fi Silent Shorts in a cozy auditorium. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to explore the observatory or enjoy a picnic, with tickets priced at $20 for adults and $15 for children under 12.

The celebrations of Juneteenth continue into the weekend, featuring various events across the city. On Saturday, attendees can participate in a zine workshop at CAAM, a musical celebration in Inglewood, or the 2025 Juneteenth Celebration in Culver City. Sunday brings more festivities including a Juneteenth Celebration and Concert in Manhattan Beach.

The Garagiste Wine Festival returns this Saturday, focusing exclusively on wines from California’s ‘garagiste’ winemakers. Expect to meet the winemakers themselves while sampling unique selections, with ticket prices ranging from $75 to $139.
