Wife of Accused Shooter Breaks Silence Following Fatal Attacks on Minnesota Lawmakers

The wife of Vance Boelter, the man accused of fatally shooting a Minnesota lawmaker, has publicly addressed the tragic events for the first time, describing the violence as a “betrayal.”

Vance Boelter, 57, faces both state and federal charges linked to two shootings that occurred on June 14, impacting the lives of Democratic Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman.

The attack resulted in the deaths of Melissa and her husband, Mark, at their home in Brooklyn Park, while Senator Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, sustained injuries at their residence in Champlin.

Boelter was apprehended in a field in Green Isle two days later, following what officials have termed the largest manhunt in Minnesota’s history.

In a statement released through her lawyers, Jenny Boelter expressed her family’s “deepest sympathies” to the families of both the Hortmans and the Hoffmans, underscoring the impact of the tragedy on countless individuals.

“We are absolutely shocked, heartbroken and completely blindsided,” Jenny Boelter stated. “This violence does not at all align with our beliefs as a family. It is a betrayal of everything we hold true as tenets of our Christian Faith.”

She articulated her horror and sadness over the events, saying, “We are appalled and horrified by what occurred, and our hearts are incredibly heavy for the victims of this unfathomable tragedy.”

Furthermore, Jenny Boelter claimed that her family has cooperated fully with law enforcement, adding that they responded to every request from investigators immediately following the initial contact with authorities.

According to her statement, she drove to meet with agents at a nearby gas station after receiving a call, asserting that their cooperation included allowing searches and providing items as requested.

However, Jenny Boelter’s remarks contrast with some law enforcement accounts regarding their initial interactions on the day of the shootings.

In a search warrant application, a state law enforcement official noted that when authorities first approached Jenny at 10 a.m. on June 14, she was “not forthcoming” about her husband’s involvement in serious criminal activity, despite having received a concerning message from him earlier that day.

Vance Boelter had warned his wife via text that “there maybe people with guns coming to the house,” which led to further inquiries by law enforcement.

Following discussions with an agent from Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Jenny reportedly divulged her husband’s alarming text messages and indicated he had advised her to go to her parents’ house.
