North Miami Kicks Off NoMi Tech Month to Foster Innovation and Economic Growth

The City of North Miami has officially declared April as NoMi Tech Month, an initiative aimed at fostering innovation and economic opportunity within the community.

This multi-generational program aspires to cultivate an environment where technology and education can thrive, benefiting residents, entrepreneurs, and businesses alike.

As technology progressively transforms various industries and communities, North Miami is positioned to take the lead in tech sector growth.

It is leveraging its dynamic business ecosystem, skilled workforce, and access to a robust technology hub to help residents adapt to the digital age.

Through strategic partnerships, workforce training, and forward-thinking policies, the city is investing in essential tools and resources.

These efforts empower individuals and local businesses to pursue careers in technology while adjusting to an ever-changing economic landscape.

Councilwoman Mary Estimé Irvin articulated her commitment to North Miami, asserting that it centers on granting every resident and business owner access to crucial knowledge and resources.

“NoMi Tech Month is how we prepare our community to be competitive, informed, and a force in South Florida’s innovation economy,” she stated.

The month is packed with activities aiming to engage various demographics, including youth, adults, seniors, and professionals.

One highlight is the JamBox Music Academy by Team of H.O.P.E, running from April 19 to May 14, 2025.

Scheduled for 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, this empowering after-school program will help students discover, explore, and nurture their musical talents.

The program will take place at the North Miami Library Teen Room located at 835 NW 132nd St, North Miami.

Another noteworthy event is the Drone Piloting Program set for April 19 and April 26, 2025.

This instructional program will cater to adults preparing for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification exam, equipping participants with essential skills to operate drones safely.

Each student will receive their personal drone following the course.

An exciting community gathering will feature the Get in Gear x NoMi Tech Community Bike Ride on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Registration begins at 8:00 AM at MOCA Plaza, located at 775 NE 125th Street, North Miami.

Moreover, NoMi Tech Connect is set to take place on April 24, 2025, in partnership with the Black Professionals Network.

This event, which will run from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at The Katz Lounge, aims to leverage tech careers for financial growth within the community.

The culmination of NoMi Tech Month will include the Senior Smart Living Luncheon on April 30, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Griffing Senior Center, addressing the needs of senior citizens.

This event features a special tech-savvy panel, including Teri Williams, President & Owner of OneUnited Bank, Bert McCulloch, Retired Associate Executive Director of Kings County Hospital, and Claude Charles, Director of Information Technology for the City of North Miami.

The full senior tech session will be facilitated by LaShevia Burns, President of Bringing Tech!

John Lorfils, North Miami’s Economic Development Director, emphasized the importance of NoMi Tech Month, stating, “It is more than a celebration—it’s a strategic investment in the future of North Miami.

By equipping our residents and business owners with the knowledge and tools to thrive in today’s digital economy, we are laying the groundwork for sustainable growth and inclusive economic development.”
