In a groundbreaking move for Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood, the local streetwear brand Adult Entertainment is set to blend culture, community, and coffee.
Taking over Coffee at the Point, a long-standing staple that announced its permanent closure in 2023, Adult Entertainment aims to reclaim the space rather than rebrand it.
Founder Pastor Pines emphasizes the brand’s commitment to honor the legacy while carving a new path for the community: “We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. We’re just carving out a lane that already exists — for us, by us.”
This initiative is rooted in a desire to not just capitalize on the café’s location but to foster a sense of lineage.
Pines shared, “We’re not here to ride the legacy of this neighborhood. We’re here to extend it. This is about lineage, not leverage. About honoring the voices that paved the way while carving space for who we are now — unapologetically Black, Brown, and present.”
Drawing a distinction between presence and performance, Pines critiques businesses that exploit culture without engaging the community: “Too often, new businesses show up with no understanding of the ground they’re standing on. They extract culture without engaging with the community. We move differently. This isn’t a takeover — it’s a continuation. We’re here with intention, with respect and with a deep sense of responsibility to the neighborhood and the people who make it matter.”
Adult Entertainment is not merely adopting the coffee culture; they aim to curate a space that reflects both their streetwear roots and the broader experiences of Black and Brown communities.
Pines asserts, “We are the underrepresented voices. And this space is a platform to make that known.”
The interior aesthetic features a minimal and brutalist design, complete with concrete pillars, curated art, and an ethos that reflects the brand’s commitment to the Black community.
A mural by Denver-native artist Marcus Murray serves as a visual and spiritual anchor within the café.
Adult Ent. will also introduce exclusive merchandise tied to the café, but clothing is only part of a larger vision aimed at enriching and supporting the communities that shaped Five Points.
The café’s soft launch is set to begin on June 15 and is anticipated to run throughout the summer.
While the collaboration is initially scheduled for three months, the team hopes to invigorate the area by demonstrating that cultural ownership can be much more than a traditional coffee shop setting.
Instead of focusing on nightlife and liquor sales, Adult Entertainment aims to infuse the neighborhood with daytime energy through meaningful programming.
The summer will see the café hosting events that emphasize dialogue, joy, and community building, including:
– Velvet Tongues poetry open mic
– Loose Lips comedy show
– A panel hosted by Black Men Build
– Writers’ workshops
– A free community library
– Cultural events in partnership with The Glass Grove
“This space is for the people who’ve always been here.
I want it to be remembered as something made for them, not just accepted by them,” Pines stated.
To achieve this vision, Adult Entertainment is collaborating with various partners, including Novo Coffee, Slam Nuba, Lighthouse Writers Workshop, Bookies, BookGive, and Urban Sanctuary Yoga Studio.
Together, they aim to cultivate a creative ecosystem where marginalized individuals can feel supported, heard, and at home.
Behind this ambitious project is a dedicated team led by Haroun Cowan, the Head of Creative Development; Johnny Rodriguez, the Design Lead; and Hakeem Furious, the Cultural Programming Lead.
This small but potent crew is laser-focused on infusing the Five Points neighborhood with the vital support it needs while championing the rich community culture that has persevered through time.
