Celebrate Pride Month with a Variety of Events and Resources at CU Boulder

In recognition of Pride Month this June, the Pride Office, part of The Center in the Division of Student Life at CU Boulder, invites the campus community to engage in several events designed to foster belonging and community among LGBTQ+ students, staff, and faculty.

On June 12, the Pride Office will host an ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the center, located on the third floor of the C4C. Attendees can enjoy a delightful array of ice cream flavors and toppings, including the essential rainbow sprinkles for a truly festive sundae experience.

This ice cream social is just one of many events taking place during June in honor of Pride Month. Furthermore, additional celebrations are slated for October during LGBT History Month when more students are on campus. Throughout the summer, the Pride Office will remain operational, providing a range of resources and support services for anyone in the campus community seeking assistance.

Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to reach out to the Pride Office for support by emailing [email protected].

Community events throughout the region will also celebrate Pride Month. For instance, on June 6, a hybrid event titled “Queer Woke: The Lavender Scare” will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at The Center on Colfax in Denver. This facilitated conversation will delve into the history and lasting effects of The Lavender Scare, featuring those who fought against it. Registration is required for participation.

The Longmont Pride Festival will occur on June 7, offering a day of interactive games and activities for the entire family at Roosevelt Park from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Hosted in a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, the event will allow community partners to share resources and sponsor giveaways.

Another notable event, the Rooftop Pride Party, takes place on the same day, June 12, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. This event, hosted by West of 50 and Denver Public Library at The Center on Colfax, promises an afternoon filled with dance, bingo, karaoke, and prizes, along with light refreshments for attendees.

The Boulder Pridefest, an exciting gathering for all ages, is scheduled for June 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Central Park and the Civic Area. Families can enjoy performances, fun activities, and various giveaways throughout the park.

Additionally, on the same day, Denver Public Library will present a film screening entitled “Stories of Pride” from 3 to 4 p.m. This short film showcases the experiences of LGBTQ+ and allied youth participating in a filmmaking intensive, followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.

The Denver Indian Health and Family Services will host a Pride Party on June 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. This free celebration will feature a community health fair, cookout, and vital resources for the LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit community.

Youth Pride will take place on June 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder, providing food, crafts, and activities tailored towards families and youth.

For the 50-plus LGBTQ+ community, a mixer will occur on June 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Equality Center, encouraging connection and celebration among attendees.

Finally, the highlight of Pride Month culminates with the Denver Pride festivities on June 28 and 29, featuring the Pride 5K, the two-day Denver PrideFest, and the exciting Vizzy Denver Pride Parade. This year, the CU system office continues its support as a PrideFest sponsor.

With an array of activities planned, CU Boulder and the local community are ready to celebrate love, inclusion, and acceptance this Pride Month.
