EVA Air Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Houston to Taipei Route with Special Events

TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 27, 2025 – EVA Air commemorated a significant milestone this year, celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Houston to Taipei route in June.

In honor of this occasion, EVA Air and Visit Houston collaborated to host a press conference at the Houston Zoo, attended by notable guests including Houston City Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum and EVA Air President Clay Sun, among others.

EVA Air President Clay Sun highlighted the airline’s unique role as the only Taiwan-based airline offering direct flights to Houston, emphasizing the importance of the route as a bridge between the two locations.

“After ten years of dedicated efforts, we have successfully increased our flight frequency from three flights per week to daily service,” Sun stated.

He expressed gratitude to the support from partners and the Houston community, noting that their commitment has resulted in an impressive average load factor of 90% for this route, underscoring the airline’s role in enhancing economic, trade, and tourism connections.

Houston City Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum lauded EVA Air’s contributions, stating, “EVA Air has proudly contributed to Houston’s growth and economic strength over the past decade through its continuous daily non-stop service between Houston and Taipei.”

She recognized EVA Air’s service not only as a travel option but as a means to deepen cultural and business relationships with Taiwan and Asia at large.

Michael Heckman, President & CEO of Houston First, remarked on the mutual benefits of EVA Air’s operations, citing that the city welcomed over 2.6 million tourists in 2023, partly thanks to the airline’s contributions.

At the event, a formal acknowledgment was made when Mayor Pro Tem Castex-Tatum presented a proclamation to EVA Air President Clay Sun, signifying the Houston community’s appreciation for the airline’s impact on tourism and economic development.

In a reciprocal gesture of goodwill, EVA Air gifted a Boeing 777-300ER model aircraft, symbolizing their ongoing partnership and aspirations for the future.

To further strengthen ties, the Houston Zoo was selected as the venue for the press conference for two significant reasons.

Firstly, the zoo has pledged to gift a male bongo antelope to the Taipei Zoo, marking a notable enhancement to the Taipei Zoo’s collection.

An official memorandum of cooperation (MOU) was signed by EVA Air President Clay Sun and Houston Zoo’s Vice President Kevin Hodge, with several dignitaries witnessing the occasion.

EVA Air will oversee and manage the safe transport of the antelope to ensure a comfortable journey to Taiwan, reflecting both zoos’ commitment to species conservation.

Secondly, the event showcased a large mural created by artists from both cities: Bounce from Taiwan and GONZO247 from Houston.

The mural, which spans an entire building wall, brings together elements representative of Houston and Taipei zoos, illustrating EVA Air’s role as a cultural bridge.

Both artists are set to travel to Taiwan in October to create another mural at the Taipei Zoo, further enriching the cultural exchange between the two locations.

This year also marks the 64th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Houston and Taipei.

In celebration, EVA Air has teamed up with the Taipei City Government to launch a tourism campaign titled “Taipei! Your Next Adventure,” enticing Houston residents to explore the cultural vibrancy of Taipei via EVA Air’s non-stop flights.

In addition to its anniversary celebrations, EVA Air recently achieved the prestigious SKYTRAX 5-Star Airlines award for ten consecutive years.

The airline remains dedicated to upholding these high standards while expanding its influence in the North American market.

EVA Air’s extensive network now includes 89 weekly flights to Taipei from key North American cities, with plans to introduce new direct flights from Taipei to Dallas (DFW) starting October 3rd.

These new routes will enhance the connectivity between the East and West Coasts, benefitting passengers traveling between the two regions.

Supporting its mission, EVA Air’s Star Alliance partnerships allow passengers to connect to over 100 inland cities across the United States and Canada, meeting diverse travel needs.

As a member of the Star Alliance, EVA Air, founded in 1989, has established itself as Taiwan’s first privately owned international airline backed by the Evergreen Line.

Operating a modern fleet of over 80 Boeing and Airbus aircraft, EVA Air services approximately 60 international destinations across Asia, Oceania, Europe, and North America.
